Default ASA furloughing ?

A person I know posted this today on Facebook, supposedly an excerpt from an XJet ALPA e-mail, just curious if anyone has any info...or if this really was sent out today.

On the ERJ side of the house, we are seeing block hours increase again and more pilots being hired and upgraded. In addition, we are bringing back 18 of the 26 furloughed XJT pilots who went to ASA over a year ago. They will be arriving in the training center soon after the New Year. Added to that will be furloughed ASA pilots who wish to be hired on the ERJ side and placed into training as new hires with us. MOU 25 outlines a process similar to the one in MOU 18 when our furloughs went over to the CRJ side. While these furloughed CRJ pilots will be new hires on the ERJ, they will retain their furloughed status on the CRJ. Once the seniority list is integrated, they will retain their CRJ seniority spot on the pilot seniority list.

Love how the express side finds out while the ASA side has no clue.

Merry Christmas, you're furloughed!!!

A few years ago I got my furlough notice from Comair the day before Thanksgiving. I was supposed to have a trip start Thanksgiving morning so I called in sick and gave myself the holiday off. I then sent our CEO a not so friendly email about how inappropriate and unprofessional it was to allow that to happen. Of course he apologized and said he didn't know that the notice was going out that day and would make sure it never happened again. Right, you run the company and are unaware when the company is giving mass layoffs? Give me a break.

Haha. This is great. I've been at ASA about 13 months now. If furloughed I would go to the bottom of some ERJ list somewhere. Then once the Joint list is complete I would magically be catapulted ahead of all the ERJers on the list who are now (always have been) junior to me. Not to mention I just got off 1st year pay. Do I go back to 1st year pay I am furloughed by ASA and hired by Expressjet even though we are the SAME COMPANY?

That is a real email. I was almost furloughed back in 08 and I can tell you that worrying about something that you have no control over is pointless. No one knows how many are going to be furloughed or when it will happen so until the company comes out with the #'s just remember that everyone is full of it.

Lets say you do go to the XJT side of the house. Why would you go back to first year pay? You would continue to build longevity because you are still employed with the company. It would kind of suck to be behind all those guys hired after you onto the xjt side but until we have our lists integrated we are technically still two pilot lists with separate contracts protecting pilots on those lists. I dont think it is right for you to be on reserve below brand new hires but I dont see how they could put you in front of them without them raising hell. You will catapult ahead when the lists come together but until then I think you are stuck.

Are you off reserve at ASA? and how far from the bottom are you?

Guys, this E-mail is just specifying the details of a new MOU signed between the two MEC's and the company. It doesn't mean the company is going to furlough anyone, it just means that IF the company furloughs, this new MOU provides protection to furloughees in the form of a transfer to the ERJ operation.

Regarding first year pay, I would be 90% sure you'd retain your current longevity date for pay and perhaps vacation (being that we are officially the same company) but you'd have to start at the bottom seniority-wise for bidding purposes.

According to SH in recurrent this week, no furlough planned at this time as block hour issues, COMA issues, ExpressJet returning pilots, and and other staffing issues have not been reconciled yet for 2012. The company is supposedly bidding on additional flying, and anyone in dangerous territory for furlough would be offered a position on the ERJ side or at SkyWest. Not sure how that one came about.

As with everything aviation, it ain't true until it happens.
