19 seater turboprop
What happened to the good old 19 seater turboprop. Are there many of them still around flying pax on scheduled routes?
|
I fly a 1900 up in the northeast and have a blast doing it. Best job ever and I make decent money to boot. Handflying in the worst weather is more rewarding than any of the flying I've done on a RJ.
|
Wouldn't it be cool if Cessna got into the 19 seat market?
Imagine a current generation C441 stretched with a taller cabin..... A man can dream |
It'll never beat the mighty Beech!

I am glad you found ways to see a bright side in your bad situation, but do not act like it makes you better than the people at all the jobs you were begging to get 2 months ago. You failed numerous check rides, and that is the only job you could get. You have NEVER FLOWN A JET. |
What's happened to my profession?

Unless you are in Alaska which has a specialized economy... 19-seat flying is not profitable, even with ridiculous government subsidies. Even the smallest 121 airline requires so much overhead that you simply can't get enough revenue from 19 seats to make that flying profitable, even if the FO works for free.

Whatever I was in the 1900 yesterday and did a 4g inverted dive with an RJ. I then gave it a love tap and knocked off it's engines forcing it to land. It's true because everyone knows nothing can stand up to a Beechcraft.

In all seriousness, the 1900 looks like a King Air that went to the bar and got the crap beat out of it. |

I did that once, but the CRJ7 is much better at that than the 1900, every cowboy knows that. Go youtube dangerzone a few times and get back to me.
PS This is me so bring your A game. |
Everyone knows flying a 1900 in the north is harder than any RJ can ever be. So go turn on your AP and whine about your job.

If you work for a crummy regional you get the autopilot MELd every other week. We all fly our JETS around in that same crummy WX with no auto pilot there cowboy. We do it going twice if not three times as fast as you too. |
Flown jets been there done that. Your job is a joke everyday I fly it's hand flown to some smally crummy airport with bs weather reporting. Ice up the wazoo and a runway that is marginal at best so don't cry to me about your mel autopilot. Twice as fast means nothing anybody can deal with speed.

You're both losers

Don't be upset because you don't fly a prop.

Beech 1900D Production summary | Airfleets aviation Most are overseas, but Silver and Great Lakes still have a full fleet of them. Silver is slowly starting to phase some of them out. Other companies like Era and Bering Air utilize them in Alaska. |

"Chicks dig beta?" (Don't judge me)
Or there's the classic "I'd rather screw my way through life than blow" |
I hang out in beta as much as I can cause it sounds so cool.

To answer your question, yes they are still around. Beech 1900D Production summary | Airfleets aviation Most are overseas, but Silver and Great Lakes still have a full fleet of them. Silver is slowly starting to phase some of them out. Other companies like Era and Bering Air utilize them in Alaska. What other 19ish seaters were commonly in use? A quick wikipedia search shows Jetstream, Twin Otter, Dornier 228, Metroliner, EMB110. I know at least a few of these are now used by cargo companies. Maybe because boxes don't care if the plane is old, loud, and vibrates. So that's probably why they're unpopular with passengers. That and, as already stated, the overhead even for small operators is enormous. |

Get off your horse, your just another piece of LABOR in this industry. An over educated guy who loads boxes on a truck, or digs a hole at a cemetery. |
I made more in my aviation career before I chose the flying route than you ever will. Now I fly and still make good money outside of just sitting in a 1900. Life is good!
