Vision Airlines (North Las Vegas)
#11
I have a student who always asks me why I'm not at an airline yet and mentioned Vision just the other day. Apparently theirs FO mins are 300tt and your certs. What the F! How can that possibly work with the impending Aug 2013 rule? They ARE a 121, right? My 830tt/100me A$$ would rather instruct than touch Vision. Mins like that make me more than wary.

I worked for them over 10 years ago so I can't speak for how it is today, but it was the funnest flying job I've ever had.
Flew Chieftains back then and they had 2 228's and were just getting 328's. Pay was much better than CFI pay and you got ALOT of twin PIC time. We used to fly over 100 hours per month and usually made around $2500/mo. Don't know if they hire you as a captain now like they used to or if you just get SIC time which would make a difference.
It wouldn't hurt to at least go interview with them, feel the place out, maybe talk to a couple of guys that are working there, and see what you think. A guy that I used to work with is still there and is their CP and the same guys own the place so I would imagine the culture is alot the same. If you get on the good side of the owners, it's a great place. If you **** them off, your life will be miserable.

The 228s are operated under a 135 cert, the 328s are on a 121 cert. Payrate is the same on both (not sure what it is presently, it was $12/hr + $12k/yr base a year or so ago for new FOs), but the 228 guys fly a lot more than the 328 guys and thus make more money. The 228 guys are also home every night, where the 328 guys spend more time on the road, but less flying overall. On the 328, you'll make more during training than on the line.
As for mins, they have hired very low timers (250 TT, wet commercial) into the 228 but generally want 1000+ for the 328.
There is NO upgrade path to Vision's Boeings from the Dorniers.
Like anywhere else, great dudes, crappy company. Fun flying, though.

The ATP rule only applies to 121 airlines. Cape Air is 135 and you need your ATP to fly for them anyway. Cape Air should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Silver airways either. They are not some bottom feeder airline. They pay their pilots well and provide excellent training.
