Attention All First Officers

I understand your sentiment, and partially agree with it. However, you should be given a reasonable amount of time to acclimate yourself to the sim and the checkride environment before hanging it all out there.
While you're right in the fact that line pilot should not require much prep before

What does this ATP and type rating really mean if we have had no additional training and still are not trained to act as PIC for our company? Is it just the perception of extra safety for the flying public?
The news reports should say "A new law has been passed by the FAA that will require all FO's flying passengers to be proficient in steep turns."

I was just pointing out that if upgrade captains receive a certain amount of hours in preparation for their type ride, why don't we receive the same in preparation for ours?

Because, your not there to train for the captain position.
It doesn't mean you can act as PIC so why would they need to put you through the training for PIC?
Really, I think everyone is making a big deal out about this, your record is on the line every time you do recurrent, so whats the difference this time?
All it is is 3 additional letters, they mean nothing basically, and that's what you'll get in the sim. Just a write off.

As a disclaimer, I have my ATP already, I am more questioning the logic. And the answer "man up" doesn't address the logic.
The difference is that their is no retraining on an ATP or type ride.

At Comair it is a jeopardy event.... Was given about 30 minutes in the box to "warm up" on a few maneuvers, then asked if I was ready to be evaluated. Not sure how other airlines will do it, we implement AQP training. All and all though it just felt like a recurrent check ride, no real big deal. Also the SIC restriction on the CL-65 was removed.

There are a few more maneuvers than just steep turns to be worried about. An ATP ride also includes zero flap landings, SE go-arounds, windshear training, fuel and malfunction scenarios, among others. And the ultimate ATP standard: company policies and procedures and JUDGEMENT. You'd better be prepared to act as PIC that day, and take the ride from the left seat.
