How long is a regional pilots career?

If it had been conducted in 1890, it would have been quite prescient, HMP. There are many reasons for low numbers of Black, Hispanic and women in professional aviation, discrimination is probably down around number 8 or 9 as a reason. Lack of role models, education, desire to undertake the difficult training, lack of transferability of skills learned, tough stand on criminal/drug records, a feeling of being an "outsider", acting "white male" are just some of the reasons. The US Military is probably the most colorblind large organization in America, the rates of minorities and women are nearly identical as in civil aviation. The Army has a higher rate than the USAF.

Let me perfectly clear, I do not wish for this thread to become a heated exchange on race & how that plays out in this industry. To many volumes on race relations already exists in the Library of Congress. No need in re-inventing the wheel.
The first sentence in your response bears some truth...given the mindset of whites towards blacks and how blacks responded to things said and done to them as individuals and a race that was intended to denigrate. Remember, we (this country) is only about 150 years removed from slavery. Attitudes and mindsets die hard. It's gonna take a few more generations for those attitudes and mindsets on the part of whites to change. Having said that and being an African-American male in these United States, trust me, racism, my friend is alive and well....even in this industry. Remember, aviation is a microcosm of the nation as a whole.
