Question How long is a regional pilots career?

Assuming no furloughs, how long between starting with a regional carrier until Delta hires you? I realize this may change depending on good times/bad times, but in this day in age, what is the average?

Thanks for any help!

Why is it a stupid question?

And sorry for the grammar mistake, I thought I had fixed it before pressing submit.

@Joachim, thanks for the answer!

Valid question...

8 years would be a good estimate right now. That being said, in the next 3 years everything could change with all the retirements. Could being the key word.

your career at a regional is how ever long you make it..... three things could happen... one... you get fed up and quit, two.......you do your time and move on to your next rung up the ladder to a major, and three.... you for whatever reason.... stay there 20 or more years and retire.....

#3... is not so far fetched I know lots of guys at AE and S5 who have been there 15-20 years because they like their situation..... fairly decent pay, most likely LIVE in base... probably to 5-8 % of the seniority list so they bid and get what they want to fly..ie.. good QOL.

Or #4 is a possibility too. Go to regional A, work a year and get furloughed. Go to regional B, start at the bottom, take a pay cut, and work a year and get furloughed. Go to regional C, start at the bottom, take a pay cut work 2 years and get furloughed. Grand total earned for almost five years of flying at regionals, a little over $70,000. Your chances of making it to a legacy are very slim.

#5 Leave your $70,000 regional job and go to a mainline carrier and get furloughed..Are you a glass half full or half empty type?

Exactly. In any other field would you leave a job that pays for a job that doesn't?
