“IMO, it boils down to this: Craig wants to make this place a "career airline". Bedford has stated that it is not. Unfortunately, Bedford holds the trump cards with the RLA and bankruptcy.
“Some places ARE career airlines. They tend to have management that considers their work force as long-term investments, and a business model that is not predicated on ultra-low labor costs. That ain't RAH. I agree with Rxxx that if this place is ever going to be what I think Craig is trying to make it, it will require a complete overhaul of the management group.”
Really!!! There are people that want a career at a commuter/regional airline? Why why why?
For management to consider us as long term invesments wouldn’t we have to consider our career and consider our management as long term invesments?
What commuter/regional airline has all the pay and other stuff we want? Can’t count Jet Blue, US Air, or a Canadian airline they aren’t the same as us and it’s just silly to think they are.
All commuter/regionals are based on ultra low cost labor costs, that’s why it’s a stepping stone to some thing better, we just got trapped in a time where there was no movement, how many would really be here if the pipe line to the majors hadn’t stopped flowing?
A commuter/regional money statagy is dependant on low pay, low average pay, turn over – they want people to leave (longevity)- and new contracts with the majors that’s what’s always been. And maybe the majors are done with out- sourcing where does that leave us and our part of the airline world?
It seems easier to just move on as soon as you can and leave management to the next poor group.
If someone really wants to stay they are accepting the pay and work rules that commuter/regionals offer and should just accept there position in life. It’s what you guys agreed on in 2003 and you thought that was an “industry leading contract?”
I don’t care about contract 2014 I just want out. This is not what I want for a aviation life.

I see you are quoting me out of context from the IBT board. Fine, I'll spell it out for you here, since you missed my point.
You seem to be using my post as an example as someone who wants a career in the regionals. You couldn't be farther from correct. My point is: CM is fighting to get us a decent enough contract that Republic can be a career airline for those who want it. I never said this was a good thing, particularly for those junior on the list like myself.
When I say "some airlines ARE career airlines" I'm not considering ANY of the regionals as such. No, not even the mighty SkyWest.
The point is: CM and Bedford disagree on the business model, and Bedford wins in the end. I believe the principle of supply and demand will catch up with Bedford eventually. Bedford and Heller want 1st and 2nd year payscale FO's and 3rd to 4th year payscale captains, and no more. I think some great contract, particularly with big captain raises, accomplishes the following:
1. Greatly increases the risk that Bedford will use bankruptcy as a tool to keep wages low.
2. Creates a 'clog in the drain' of lifer captains, meaning a very long wait to ever see the pay relief and turbine PIC building of the left seat. For those of us (myself included) that are just trying to build the qualifications needed to apply to a REAL career airline, this is a tremendous set-back.
(Disclaimer: I am in no way insinuating that one might obtain the magic 1000TPIC and immediately get hired somewhere, but NOT having it results in immediate application denials from airlines many of us would like to work for. Even if it isn't required, it still makes one much more competitive).
FWIW, I have grave concerns over where we are going with this contract, and how it will affect my career. In fact, I'm worried about it flat ruining my career. I too just want to move on from RAH.
Also, I really wish you (3662forlife) would stop quoting across message boards. What is posted internally on the local 357 board is not intended for a public forum like APC. I get your frustrations...I have them too, but try to have some integrity.

Lets see if I correctly get the context of your quote.

CM is fighting for you to make this a great airline for RAH pilots. Trying to take the seats of F9 pilots in roughly 6 years. Why are the Mid Ex. pilots holding out on recalls? Maybe hoping that F9 hires again, which we are not going to do until we separate. Is the IBT going to protect them as well?
I do believe SLATS does get it. Skywest is just another regional, but it is much better than RAH in terms of work place and a potential career in the regionals.
For you pilots at Colgan I really do feel sorry for you and I mean it! I bet though those RAH pilots(IBT) cannot wait to get there hands on those planes. Not including you in the plans is par for course with the IBT! They cannot get themselves their own contract(6+years) so they try to incorporate other carriers that do have better things to offer because their style of negotiating is, lets say pretty futile. I have NEVER seen a union bypass a pay raise for their FO's where the company said outright that this will have no bearing on the current negotiations for a fair and equitable contract. Of course the IBT will spin it as the company is trying to undercut our negotiations. REALLY!?
If you Colgan pilots can go somewhere else please do yourself the justice. The IBT has got to be the most inept and spinning machine union that I have ever been(forced) a part of.

That so called pay raise was a slap in the face. The company doesnt understand the definition of "fair and equitable." I'm worth a lot more than $41 an hr. I'll take a higher rate with cancellation pay, trip/duty rigs, and real RSV rules. That's not unreasonable to ask for.

Lord almighty! It's been three years and you still haven't figured out that there's a Texas sized disconnect between what the company says and what they actually do? We've learned from experience not to accept these "no bearing" changes because the company usually takes it as our endorsement of a permanent alteration.

And yes, what is being done to the Colgan guys is bee ess. But, this is a backdoor deal amongst shady CEOs that had nothing to do with the IBT.

Who is "they"? The Teamsters aren't buying Colgan. In fact, no one is buying Colgan. The planes are being turned back to the leasor and then being leased to RAH for the United flying. It seems that Menke didn't want to sell a second airline to Bedford. Colgan as an airline and certificate is remaining a property of Pinnacle. Unless there is a purchase of the airline, and thus the pilots, there can't be an integration.

Bolo keeps thinking that an arbitrated award everyone agreed to is "taking". I guess he just never wants to admit that it is what it is which is a binding award. The IBT works for ALL covered parties. Bolo thinks that IBT should be working just for F9 pilots and embrace their backroom deals and contract modifications outside the contract by creating a reference to a commercial agreement that is always changing and yet it isn't changing the CBA? Sounds shady to me... I do think it is a good idea for IBT to make contract changes with the content of other CBAs. That's why amalgamation is nice to have. But I digress... let Bolo keep crying.

Although I hardly ever post on APC, I will take the time here to back Bolo. First of all, The IBT DOES NOT represent the interests of all parties in which they are providing representation. The LOA 67 law suit is the best example of this fact. This change to our CBA was in fact a necessary evil the F9 pilot group agreed to, and with an overwhelming 98% yes vote. (would have RAH liquidating Frontier if this agreement was not reached-maybe not, but I and many others strongly believe that the RAH BOD would have pulled the plug on the operation before continuing to feed an airline which lost 50 million the 2nd quarter of 2010)
The law suit filled by the IBT (in the best interest of the F9 pilot group??) was a direct attack against the Frontier pilots and the future of Frontier Airlines. In addition, the commercial agreement that most RAH bros have a problem with is nothing more then an agreement to monitor the distribution of the profit sharing agreed to under LOA 67. This is a return on our investment of pay freeze contributions. If not for the agreement under LOA 67, the other players would not have contributed to the restructuring agreement, which were the viable savings required to make Frontier a profitable operation. (GCAS, Airbus and others...)
I was a teamster for 15 years in the trucking industry, and at that time had the upmost respect for the IBT. Today I would quit my job before becoming a full member of this corrupt organization.
The question remains, what have you done for me (us) recently????
