just curious.......if this was a 20 year old dude that lied about his times and age, and due to that upgraded before you, keeping you out of that seat for a while and earning 2-3 times what you do and building PIC time while you still are waiting for a CA slot, would you praise him for sticking it to the man (government) for saying "I'll get my dang ATP when I want to, try to stop me you age discrimination morons" or would you be calling for him to be hanged?
I wouldn't worry about it because I only concern myself with what is under my control. Upgrade times, hiring, what others earn really don't concern me. All I worry about is preparing myself or opportunities and then taking them. Whining and crying about things beyond your control is a waste of time. |

And while I have no problem with senior citizens, I'll let you fly with the 70+ crowd on a gusty, nasty, winter day, where good hand-eye coordination, and good reaction time, is important. |

I couldn't agree more the mandatory retirement for 121 is and was a crock. It was born under the era of the CAA so that senior captains couldn't bid the jet originally.
Regardless, this pilot broke the rules. Quite frankly I'm sick of this whole notion that the rules apply to everyone but me. Having flown with I can also say he broke more than his fair share of the rules and regs. Despite all of that I like the guy. But when you get caught regardless of the oh so good intentions, face the it like a man or don't commit the crime. |

I agree he should have followed the rules, but I really hope this goes to trial. It will be interesting to see the government deny someone the ability to earn a living just because of an arbitrary age limit, not because they are no longer qualified to do their job.
I agree. I hope this works its way up through the courts and is eventually deemed unconstitutional. I hope people are able to work however long they want. I want to be a regional FO for another 20 years. |

You're an airline pilot, thousands of wannabes want to be YOU! What's the beef? Airline pilots are cool. GF |

Have flown with many of these guys in corporate, and they are just as sharp as any pilot I've flown with. In fact sharper than some of the younger guys.
One, I don't trust people and their typically flawed or lack of judgement. Most guys wouldn't know when to quit nor would they care. Two, our "system" for deeming whether or not pilots are fit to fly is a joke! 1st class medicals basically come in a Cracker Jack box and check rides / PC's are a joke. Especially if you have been flying the same airframe for years. If you want to do away with the retirement age then the "checking standards" need to drastically change. Oh and yeah the guy needs to go to jail if proven guilty and ALPA needs to actually do something useful and let the judicial system handle this. |
He wont be doing time since there will be no trial.
