I'll go along with the inconsistency thing - and I used to travel position internationally almost exclusively. More than once when traveling as a normal full fare passenger I've had CBP question what I do given the quantity and variety of stamps in my passport. Subsequently several of the agents have told me to use the crew line next time to expedite things for myself, "just show your badge."
In turn I've had a one or two agents in the crew line question why I'm using the crew line when I'm not working. "Well, the last time I was through (last month), one of your fellow agents told me to."
Always seemed to satisfy them, and hence my badge was available when I went through.

The only reason you're wearing it is you think you'll get some special treatment, which is why the customs guy (rightfully) told you to take it off. You're not on duty, get in line with everybody else. This is usually seen among young new hires who want to impress their girlfriends while non-reving by strutting around with a badge they don't need to be wearing.

Or i'm on a positive space deadhead and don't feel like traveling in uniform on a long-haul flight. Since I'm on duty, I put on the company ID when clearing customs and use the crew line. Often makes the difference between being #3 in line vs. #300 and has prevented me from missing connections more than once. Sorry that it grinds your gears.
If you're not non-revving with a badge on while traveling the girl you want to impress, my comment obviously doesn't apply to you.
Sorry my comment that wasn't directed at you grinds your gears.

Do you strap your wallet, keys, and phone to your chest to keep from losing those things? You like being approached for random pax questions while on your own leisure time? Anonymity is bliss.

Then quite frankly, you're being a dork. Nothing wrong with being a dork, this is America...but that doesn't mean the rest of us aren't allowed to shake our heads in disgust while you strut through the terminal in sneakers, jeans, and an unnecessary ID badge clipped to your polo shirt. To be fair, still not as bad as the new-hire guys who put on their full uniform + hat, and act like they needed to stop in the mall at the last minute.

) on an international flight operated by my company. Since business class was full, my crew badge did get me treatment I would not normally receive in coach. I suppose the more amazing part is that not one single person asked me a question about flying. Maybe you should stop stereotyping. If we all did that, I can easily assume you walk around the terminal in unshined shoes, no blazer, wearing sunglasses with your backpack on while bopping to the music blasting from your earbuds. BTW, nice frosted tips. Clearly this is who you are, since you're an RJ driver.

Wow. It's obvious you're a miserable person. I wore my id(on a lanyard

You know, from the countless hat threads on the Crackpipe. And yes, it took every bone in my body to not turn this into a hat thread
. You haven't been around the Regionals for the while, so may also not notice the trend of uniform pants altered into "Skinny jeans" style, and guys wearing a t-shirt and uniform pants to the bar...lady killers.
PS., you may also be a dork, but at least the lanyard look is better than the clip-pinching polo shirt look. And somehow it looks less dorky on a Delta guy, since most of them are old enough to look like they work in management and could be working. I'm at a loss for why keeping your ID in your front pocket is so revolutionary...pax manifest show's who's a non-rev and I've been treated well without displaying my badge for 8 hours while off-duty.

Well, you and I have been around this board long enough to know that I am a Military guy and know how to wear a uniform. I also despise wearing one anytime I don't need it.

Look, I prefer to stay under the radar as well. I commute, and now it's harder to commute out of uniform because I enjoy KCM so much. I do know you're a military guy, and I'm certain your uniform is quite the opposite of what I posted. I was simply making a point. Just because a guy wears his id on a non rev flight doesn't mean he's everything you stated. Besides, I wanted free drinks!

And I hate my hat. But Delta treats me well and pays me decent to wear my hat. It's a company policy, so I comply. Did you not wear your hat in the military? Our are you like me, and wear it only when you know bosses are around?

BTW, the new trend you mention makes me shudder.....
