I believe the 401k deposit is an option. Not a non-negotiable deal. I could be wrong though.

I'm not a financial guru, nor a tax wizard, but would the 401k deposit be an option for those not wanting to be bumped into the next tax bracket?

Second to last option: return ALL Christmas presents, right now.

They said at the road show you could contribute it into your 401K up to the annual IRS limits. SO likely any FO or junior captain could put it all in tax free, the super senior captains would more than max out just with the "bribe money" without any paycheck contributions.

Unless you put it in a Roth, you're going to be taxed anyways.

If you put it in a regular 401k, not only are you going to be taxed on this money, but you won't have the money with which to pay the tax -- it'll all be in your 401k account. You'll end up with less money than you would've with just your regular salary.

Not saying the 401k is a bad idea, just make sure you understand how it all works.

I am curious what percentage of the guys who get put on the street will walk away from the industry. It seems to me Delta is trying their best to make the pilot shortage a reality.

If my company were to put me on the street after 6 plus years I would say phukit. Unless a major knocks on my door I'd be finished. There is no way I could do first year regional pay again. I feel bad for the guys that are faced with this choice.

At my longevity it'd be $6k one time payment. It'd help for sure, but that's not going to determine my vote on its own.

Every one of us has to vote on their own accord.
Where does it say this? I read some of the TA, may have over looked it.

Same with me. It would be a nice change to do a 9-5 for a while. Hell, starting pay for airport security would start at 30k. Plus benefits.
Or work in an office building. Sell real estate. Sell cars boats .....
Everyone loves an airline pilot. Lots of jobs out there.

My question, too.

I know of at least one guy who walked away from piloting (took a job in some sort of aviation management position). There are a few who talk seriously about leaving flying, but I'll believe it when I see it...

Also, I believe that "DeltaPaySoon" from this forum left aviation completely. And I know first and second hand of folks leaving the airlines for corporate/fracs.

I walked away a few months ago after being extremely fed up with 9E and don't regret it for a second. Love life on the outside. Still have many friends at 9E and hope for the best. I wish it would get a no but I have a feeling this will pass based on discussions with "junior" 9E'rs. based on the blood money for furloughs.

Hahahahaha! I laugh at this post. There is no pilot shortage. There never will be! It's been prophesied since the late 90's. There will NEVER be a shortage of pilots willing to work for a major airline that pays gobs of money and gives you half the month off.

For every pilot job posted at a major, they probably get 50 qualified applicants.
