Guard Shenanigans
#22
First; I don't remember specifically saying "see ya" . However, if the freq is not too busy, I usually check in and leave the freq with some kind of short pleasantry. What's with the objection to "see ya"? Is it any different than "so long", "good night" or "Merry Christmas"? I think not. We‘re all humans, not robots. If it doesn't interfere with necessary communications, what's the problem?
(btw; I'm straying a bit from the thread as i am not talking about the guard freq.....someone else brought it up)

I think that's the kind of tool being referred to, not a simple and benign "see ya", which is no different than good day/morning/afternoon/night/bye/thanks/so long etc.
Have to agree with hating on the guard police. Some of the wide body masters of the universe sound as if they are like a cat waiting to pounce on their first victim. YOU'RE ON GUARD!!! - yeah...thanks...that really helped everyone monitoring the frequency.
Oh, and a special shout out to the guy who talks before he listens, blocking people constantly...and then is the first one to always say "BLOCKED" Oh, really? That's what all that noise was? Nobody could have figured it out without your assistance identifying a "BLOCK".
Okay, my head is going to explode in FIFE...four...TREE...

Here's what will help fix that:
FOM Section Xx, Paragraph XxX:
"No pilot will knowingly, nor will the PIC allow any pilot under his command, transmit on emergency frequency 121.5 for any purpose other than outlined in and in accordance with FAA regulations and Airman's Information Manual."
Put it in the books so these morons will have something to look at. BETTER YET make it a memory item.
The bigger problem is, the PIC is likely not monitoring the frequency and or his FO, due to the constant chatter, and is oblivious. Unless the offender is the PIC, and then it's even more embarrasing. But if he can carpet dance because its in the FOM, maybe he'll be a little more enthusiastic about enforcing proper flight deck discipline.
But then again, the culprits probably include corporate, 135, or GA people too, so how to clean all that up?

What a terrific solution this one is.

This whole thread is ridiculous. First of all, why IS is on the regionals board? I hear more Delta ops calls and PA announcements than anything, but maybe that's just because of where I usually fly. And if it's another tired attack on "Regional Pilot Unprofessionalism", need I remind you of SWA with the 'gays, grannys and grandes" rant? Fact is immature individuals exist everywhere, and when they're bored they come out the most. You don't need to pontificate to the lowly regional pilots about maturity.
Now as for solving the problem. IGNORE THEM. 15 people shouting YOU'RE ON GUARD! doesn't help. Telling these children to shut up only instigates them. When someone makes a scene on guard, they want to get a rise out of people. Telling them to shut up gives them exactly what they want. If we all make a pact to ignore them, they will stop, I guarantee you.
