To answer your actual question....

Upgrade is more productive, but unpredictable.

An FO pay scale is less productive, but very predictable.

Only you decide what level of risk/reward is acceptable.

Thanks Pete, I would like to think maybe PSA would be a good move for balancing the risk/reward relationship. Although I like Skywest's pay more its not that big of a difference I don't think though, and I'm from NC so I think bases would be better for me to commute to on the East Coast?..

Anyone with 1500 hours and a pulse can get hired right now.

I don't get it..... You are basing all of your info on right now! By the time you even get to an airline it WILL be completely different! It kinda seems like you asked a question but don't want to actually hear the answer! Who cares what regional is a good choice now! You have a long ways to go! Have you even started instrument training yet? You'll end up with 250-300 hours by the time you're done training then you still need 1200 more.... You're way ahead of yourself, I can't tell you how important it is to focus on your training first! You've got soo many check rides and written tests to take still...and then maybe instructing and staying alive!

You cannot ever really figure this industry out. It's partly a calculated risk and the rest is...

If you commute, you'll hate your life. I'd rather amputate my own fingers than go back to commuting.

Then why are there still a lot people applying and still not getting jobs? I get there is a need for pilots right now, but I have a hard time believing your "anyone with a pulse" type statement hold any validity.. Do I think minimum people are getting hired? Of course I do, I hope I'm one of them but it won't JUST be because of my minimums. There are a lot of people with JUST MINIMUMS as far as I've been told. Not starting an argument here, I sure couldn't win being so new to this industry and I am trying to be humble in the midst of the professionals I will be working with, BUT for christ sake thats ludicrous just to accept someone only to have minimums.. They need some common sense and people/communication skills etc.

Jvw700, this kid is looking for validation for his decision to go ATP.

Let's all just tell him to go to ATP and let him figure out the rest of the hot mess.

I completely see where your coming from and I've heard this and can visualize it being "painful" but in my case when I have to because lets face it.. Im going to HAVE to... would it PROBABLY be less painful with PSA bases on the East Coast or comparably negligible?
