I'd rather be flying one 3 hour flight than 5 or 6 30min-45min flights.

There is no way a CRJ should be used for a 3 hour flight. I woluld suggest that flight was not "regional".

Regional airlines stopped doing regional flying 10 years ago.
Customers want:
Full size seats
lay flat seats
2 or 3 lavs
free drinks
free food
frequent service
free bag check
seat beside them empty
choice of window or aisle
f/a that they can abuse
like to travel safer than in a car
wheelchair service
special services

All for $99.

If you want a cheap ticket then something is going to have to give. And that's services. i.e. extra lavs.

I used to do flights all the time from EWR to OMA,Kansas City, and Nassau in the ERJ 145 when i flew for XJT. Throw in winter time head winds and you were looking at 3 + hours easy, brutal for the pax but i didn't care, just put my seat back, feet up, and enjoyed the ride. Had to make sure i did my PDP(pre departure ****) though to avoid the walk of shame.

FWIW I flew from ANC to DFW a few weeks ago on an AA 757 and it was a miserable 6 hour flight. Window seat, row 20-something. Narrow seat, knees almost touched the seat-back in front of me. It's all how a particular airline configures the seats. Alaska 737 had a wider aisle, wider seat, and plenty of leg room. They did have a bulkhead w/ a door that separated the classes I guess, thought that a little weird.

Alaska used to (and maybe still does) operate combi airplanes. That door may been there to seperate the cargo from the pax but has since been converted to all pax.
