I'm not really talking about scope. Take Delta and Alaska as an example. Seperate airlines that code share. What would stop a new airline from starting up with 737s and code sharing with DL? What would prevent a regional from going it alone ala Independence, getting 737s and code sharing with Delta?

Not a scope issue, just code sharing with another domestic airline that flies narrow bodies at regional wages. I would not put it past mgmt to try a scheme like that to squeeze every last penny in profit at the expense of our careers.

I hope there is language in the contracts that prevent this or will be with the next round of CBAs.

What would stop Skywest or RAH from code sharing with Emirates, Etihad or Qatar to serve the domestic market in the US with these orders? Are there any current laws prohibiting that?

Good point. If they can code share with majors they could code share with regionals.

DL has in it's scope what the regionals can codeshare with- and it limits it to the same size as what is allowed to be flown under DCI. Not sure what others have.

From the AA board:

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR APA LEADERSHIP

The newly expanded APA board of directors — with duly designated chairmen and vice chairmen from CLT, PHL and PHX — is convening this week for the first time.

As a board, we are united concerning Scope. We understand and share your concerns prompted by senior management's recent comments about our industry-standard 76-seat limit on regional affiliate aircraft. Management has indicated a desire to dilute that limitation and obtain a below-industry-standard Scope Clause in the ongoing joint collective bargaining agreement negotiations.

This afternoon, the full APA board met with American Airlines CEO Doug Parker. Our conversation with Mr. Parker was frank and cordial and covered a wide range of items. Foremost among them: We informed him that APA will not agree to any Scope concessions. Our actions now concerning Scope will help define the profession for the balance of our careers and for the next generation of aviators, and we are committed to securing industry-leading pay and work rules.

With the merger of American Airlines and US Airways succeeding beyond the most optimistic forecasts, management needs to address APA's priorities concerning quality of life, work rules, and pay and benefits. Our pilots' sacrifices, our efforts on the merger's behalf and the vital role we play in the airline's success must be appropriately acknowledged.
So, that's good.

Gates and slots in hub airports. Can't just announce routes and alliances and off you go.

That's arguably easier to get around. Just remove seats. There are 87 seat RJs flying today.

Well AAG american only restriction is 15% codeshare of the aa domestic block hours. come one come all, it is just up to management to implement. APA scope does nothing for this.
