The Union Ramp at U did not win the vendor bid contract, and worse yet, Skywest laid off their ramp employees, and contracted out the ramp operation to simplicity.
Wow. This is the most idiotic post I have ever seen.

SkyWest was the contractor. United mainline hires the ramp work. SkyWest was supplanted by the low-bidder, Simplicity, after trying to hold on to the ramp operation by cutting pay in an attempt to remain competitive. Simplicity is now running the operation with north african immigrant labor. The average Simplicity employee not only doesn't speak English, but also is illiterate in their own language. It is as if they hired 5 year olds to do the job. There are basic requirements when you are working on a ramp and filling commissary orders that are lacking in this group. This is not a good first job for immigrant labor. They should be hired after getting a few years experience working with modern technology and learning to drive. The real problem is United wants to treat all of their vendors like their regional partners, and have everything operate hands-off. There is no tenure with any part of their contracted operations. They want to write a check and forget it. If United hasn't already cut Simplicity they need to put a stop-payment on the latest check and start over.

Hahah United deserves every bit of bad press and headaches. They continue to crap on their regional slave labor "partners" with no regard to quality. When a contractor (Skywest) is paying something like $10-$11 an hour and they are too expensive there is something wrong. I LOVE to see United in this mess because they will NEVER learn unless it affects them negatively, and even then I don't think they care. Ultimately as people have stated, all they care about it cost. Even with the worse customer service reputation people continue to fill their airplanes.

I had a plane overnight there a few days ago. When we showed up at 10 in the morning the galley was empty and no water. We waited an hour on como and another 30 minutes on water. We watched five ramp guys hiding beside their little hut the hour and thirty minutes smoking one cig after the other.

Not gonna fixed this year, unfortunately. I agree that it's negligent for the airline not to ensure proper staffing and training for outsourced labor. That said, because of low fuel prices, United will post record profits in Q4 and probably for the year. Records profits, management look like friggin geniuses, bonuses for all! "You're doing a heck of a job Brownie".

That's pretty bad. Menzies, at least in the us, is probably the worst ground handling operation, they hire potheads and felons. They were going to make me a manager after like 2 months because I wasn't high and had some sort of intelligence. I quit.
