Wheels fall off in KDEN
#41
SKW wasn't fighting hard to keep the DEN contract. They were facing the same issues "Incompetentcty" is facing now (admittedly not nearly as badly).
I'm pretty sure SKW management wasn't loosing sleep over losing DEN. If United thinks they could find somebody to do it cheaper, then Have fun. This is the result.

Could you imagine the fun if Simplicy was in charge of deicing.
I remember Eagle had issues up in Eugene when they took over the station. They had not contacted the ice vendor and did not have a proper understanding of deicing procedures that caused massive delays.
Still Simplicity in Denver has taken this to a whole new level.

From: 7ER B...whatever that means.
During idle moments waiting for a gate, rampers, etc., I often wonder what the cost of all those missed connections, lost/damaged bags, extra fuel burned, hotels for passengers, crew schedule disruptions, etc. work out to when divided over the Simplicity workforce. Seems like United is just moving costs/expense from the "Labor" column into the "Miscellaneous Screwup" column without any real, actual savings.
I guess then United can turn around and point the finger at the Express carriers and charge penalties/withhold performance incentives that are really the fault of Simplicity's incompetence. Hopefully this works out in the black on SOMEONE'S spreadsheet otherwise it's just a mess for mess's sake.

I heard they weren't the cheapest. Skyw didn't lose it purely on cost.
Which stinks because Skyw's biggest problem WAS the paycut they gave the rampers. Cause-effect, fewer people were showing for work, more turn over.
Skyw getting kicked out of den was mgmt's fault not having a clear crystal ball a couple of years ago on how to play the issue. But over all the blame is on UAL. The blatant lack of understanding of the realities of DEN is dumbfounding.
UAL owes the traveling public an apology...a full on dominos grade apology.
And like dominos they need to take some of that chedda and actually fix it.

SkyWest was having retention problems for ramp personnel to begin with. Then they cut the pay. Then they started talking about cutting benefits (not sure if they ever got to that point before being succeeded).
The fact of the matter is that you just can't attract a reliable workforce to bust ass on the ramp for less than $13/hr + benefits, especially at KDEN because driving to work is expensive and time consuming.

It is Express!! Simplicity took over the Ramp operation for Express employees who are now laid off permanently.
The Unions at the Mainline U, have to vendor bid to get Express work. That last development was that the U Customer Service division won a contract to handle Express out of DEN. This was for at least Skywest.
The Union Ramp at U did not win the vendor bid contract, and worse yet, Skywest laid off their ramp employees, and contracted out the ramp operation to simplicity.
