I spoke to an ATL CP this morning who confirmed, per a company-wide leadership conference he attended yesterday, that DAL will be hiring in the fall to cover the 777 deliveries.

I believe the article only stated that ATL-Shanghai service will be cut from X to Y days a week until next spring. I did not see anything about "reducing 777 flying."
I think you'll find that DAL will discover a different (but profitable) route on which to utilize those 777s during the days they've cut from the Shanghai schedule.

Unbelievable. (I mean that as the saying goes, not as in I really don't believe it)
BigGuns -
I think that although certain routes might be cut back from 7x weekly to 4x weekly, or something similar, those 777s will undoubtedly be used on other routes when they are not flying the routes that were reduced. It seems like there is not enough widebody lift at Delta to go around.
Edit: Spaceman Spiff was a minute ahead of me.

I am not sure of what the intent of this article even is. Isn't it normal for the company to reduce frequency in the slower winter months?
Seems like they're trying to make more bad news out of nothing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this doing the new JFK-EZE or the ATL-EZE runs. Perhaps some African flying could be in for some 777 service as well. I would rather see them reduce frequency and protect profits than fly a half full 777 to Shanghai and claim to have daily service. While I was a little surprised to see the reduction in service, I have to say this is what I love about our Network guys. They think like a cold day trader when it comes to making money. If a route may underperform in a given time period, they pull the plug or reduce frequency to go somewhere else to make money. If you don't think that's not how the game should be played, we may very well be the only legacy to make a profit this quarter. That should speak volumes for how we are positioned.
