I had this happen in MSP last week. Was in uniform, checked in at the ticket counter and went through the employee line. Last time this happened the agent was just like...........you don't have to be screeened. This time however, I was a random. Random my ass. The agents were nice and agreed it was stupid and I have given up trying to figure out the system because the system is worth as much as the TSA shoulder boards....

I think many of you guys and gals are young, self centered elitest. You assume that becuase a person works for TSA they are high school drop outs. I worked for TSA to help pay for flying lessons. I have a four year degre and I am an officer in the Army National Guard and combat vet.

You assume the screener is the one who makes the rules. They just cary out the rukes. They dont make them. What seems like common sense to YOU doesnt make you special and above the rules. It doesnt matter that you are flying the plane. Why should you not have to go through secuity? Terrorists can fly planes too. Terrorist have airline pilot uniforms too. The screener isnt reading into all of that they are just trying to do a job, get paid and support their famailies. Much like you guys are.

I bet the gal was black to and I have read you guys threads about ATlanta and other urban areas so I already know how you feel about that subject so I wont even go there.

Now, I am not saying I love TSA. I didnt like the job. It didnt pay as much as I thought I deserved with my background and they have you do a lot of stupid things. But it was a job none the less and It is honest work. so get off your high horse and repsect people for doing their jobs. Thank you.

She said now, because you can carry any size of contact solution. So I said to her, you mean to tell me I could carry a gallon size bottle of Renu but I cant carry after shave. The bottle she wanted me to throw away was 4oz and not 3.4 or whatever the hell they wanted it to be. This whole 3oz rule is so damn stupid. It doesnt make sense at all. And these Pro's are so serious about that stuff too.

I was also wonder if anyone got the random as a crew member yet. It happen to me twice at the same airport. There is a new order out now where they can do that.

You have got to be kidding me. If a terrorist somehow succeeds in getting a crew badge and through security, AND into the flight deck, the battle is lost my friend, whether they went through security or not. Working flight crew should not have to go through security, period. Crewpass will not come a moment too soon, if it ever arrives.

Also, most TSA reps I have dealt with have been both arrogant and disrespectful. One gal in particular was giving an extremely hard to time to a very elderly man who obviously didn't know the rules very well, and was publicly and loudly humiliating him. I told her to take it easy, and you should have heard the barrage of verbal abuse I took after that. Very discourteous and unprofessional. All the other TSA agents standing around seemed to find the circus quite amusing, and one commented to me as I walked through "see if you talk back to us again".

You're going to have a much more rewarding life when you learn to treat all people with respect, and do not disparage or disrespect them to make yourself feel better.

And so, because one or manybe ten Screeners have been rude to passengers, you lump ALL screeners in the same category. Well, if thats the case then should I lump all airline pilots in the samecategory based on comments I read here? If I did that,I would never want to work in the field of aviation. But of course I love it too much to let others determine my happiness.

Screeners are not detectives. they dont have the time to sit and figure how who is a terorist and who is not, They have intructiions to do a job and they do it.

When I was a platoon Leader in Bosnia I gave my soldiers instructions and they carried them out. I didnt have time to explian every intricuit detail of my instructions, I didnt expect them to be scholars on the art of war. I expected them to be tactically proficient and to do their jobs. Same with screeners. They arent thinking "well, this guy has a SIDA badge, so they couldnt possibly be a bad guy" They arent thinking like that. They are grunts, they just know to screen people tht come through the line. ASimple thinking? Probably, but thats not neccessarily a bad thing. we need workers on the line. not scholors.

True, some TSA employees might be less intelligent than you, and many of the rules are asinine. Does that give you the right to degrade them in such a manner?

Your method of dealing with the issue is immature, disgusting, and utterly inappropriate. I'm embarrassed to share this profession with you.
Sir, I must disagree. I find that most Govt employees have one thing in common. Lack of education, an even more lack of common sense and a great desire for a steady - uninterupted paycheck. There is a reason that we pilots, en masse, writhe with angst after succombing to the TSA's senseless search of one who commands control of innocent lives by the very occupation he has chosen. The TSA, and some of its employees are h3ll bent on protecting their agency....reference http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/14/air...ion/index.html

YOU and I on the otherhand paid dearly for the opportunity to enter the profession we are in. We put our livlihoods on the line, each and every leg. We protect the lives of our customers, EACH and EVERY LEG. We stand to lose that opportunity when faced with the most minor FAA violation. We stand to lose that opportunity at the slightest downturn in the economy.

You should never be embarrased of another co-worker trying to make your life and mine a little easier to bear.

clearly you have to know that you were the exception to the rule being that you were educated and worked there. having been behind the scenes you must have seen first hand what a joke the agency is!
