Go for the Quick Upgrade

Chasing upgrade can be a risky decision. I for one would not recommend coming to GoJet under the current mgmt barring a complete 180 shift in leadership. Even if a new contract gets signed, the culture among mgmt is not going to change.

The MEL is as much your enemy as your friend, 5 leg day in/out of the LAX basin CRJ, TCAS deferred, legal yup, good idea, not so much. No triple redundancy here, one system, broke. The company's job is to get planes in the air, our is to do it safely. I did have the conversation with the MOD on that one, told him "I am not refusing to fly, I am refusing that A/C with that MEL, into that location" we got another plane. Deferred APU summer time, PSP-LAX-PHX-LAX-PHX, that one didn't happen either.
2. TCAS deferred. Refuse the aircraft.
3. APU deferred. Refuse the aircraft.
4. CRM skills that absolutely suck (as evidenced by your posts on this thread).
Your chief pilot has 4 very valid reasons for firing your ass.
And NO, you are not the great captain that you think/proclaim that you are (The good ones don't have to tell you how great they are). If every captain at your airline had your attitude, the completion rate would be 30% and your airline would be out of business.

1. Engine VIB in the yellow (advisory). Stop climbing, turn around, and divert.

So it would be nice to keep this thread on topic instead of catering to the ego of Internet tough guy over there in the corner....
I'd like to learn as much as possible before getting to the airline pilot stage so would appreciate your thoughts on....
What things can you guys recall about great CAs that made them great? Not so great?
On the other side of the coin, how about FOs?

As far as bad CA's, there are a few things. The ones with a huge ego, god complex are just miserable to be around. The ones who do not listen to one thing the FO has to say are bad. I have flown with a CA who thought reserve FO's were out to kill him and all FO's were out to violate him.
I've only been in the left seat for less than a year, but most FO's have been good. Most of the time I have an issue is with the really senior FO's that think they know it all and are lazy. I try to help the new FO's as much as I can, but there are some days I admit I do not want to play the instructor role.

I remember one time getting off a deadhead flight to an overnight my captain looks at me and asks me to call for the shuttle. I looked him right in the eye and said "already done"
When's my upgrade date?

Just for clarification:
1. No, I wouldn't divert for an engine VIB in the yellow. Yellow is advisory, not a limit. I would call MX at the destination.
2. I would not refuse an aircraft with a deferred TCAS. Not even LAX.
3. I would not refuse an aircraft with a deferred APU. Not even PHX. (I would suggest an a/c swap if available and timely).
4. I highly respect my flying partner in the right seat and value his/her opinion. I have learned something from every FO I have flown with.

I hope nobody dies on your airplane in PHX with no APU on a long taxi. If they do, I hope you are okay with being held personally responsible (talking CRJ200 of course). Many people underestimate how quickly the cabin temp can reach a dangerous level. Didn't a Mesa crew have some legal problems years ago when an elderly woman died on the taxi-out in PHX with a deferred APU?
