mid level jobs
It seems that there are 2 types of jobs out there... regional (1000 hours total time, 100ME) then there are the major/cargo/legacy that require 1500 TT, 1000 PIC, etc. etc.) what is in the middle? These are huge differences in experience, and realistically at the big boys, you need a lot more than the mins... so again is there something in the middle that pays in the middle?

Other options.
A good place to build quality flight time and actually make some money is in the area of corporate flying or working for a quality aircraft management company such as Executive Filteways, Tag Aviation, Jet Aviation etc. I think pilots often overlook general aviation as a viable career. For those of you that are looking to move up to a major airline, general aviation is a great place to build quality experience and get a couple of type ratings which will help you build a solid resume and offer a fall back in the event of a furlough.

I have never heard of the companies you mentioned (Executive Filteways, Tag Aviation, Jet Aviation). Who are they, and where can I find out more about them including pay and if they are hiring. They aren't on this website anywhere.
Thanks for the help.

The companies I mentioned are in the New York area. Executive Fliteways is on Long Island (www.fly-efi.com), Jet Aviation is in Teterboro NJ, and TAG is based in White Plains NY.
These are examples of companies outside of the Regionals and Majors. This is a huge sector that is not discussed on this forum.

I spent 5 years working for Jet Aviation in ZRH. Look them up on Google.
BTW, pilots at the majors do not necessarily have more experience. Not at all. Many do, but we have plenty of 20-year pilots at my company. Many never move on for any number of reasons.
There is NO DIFFERENCE in the job anymore between flying an RJ and flying a 737 or bigger. Except the RJ pilot flies more and shorter legs usually.

I beg to differ. The only difference is the pay scale.
US flies BOS-LGA 16 times daily on an A319.
DL flies BOS-LGA 16 times daily on an MD-88.
CO flies BOS-EWR 12 times daily on a B737-500.
AA flies BOS-LGA and BOS-JFK 14 times daily on an ERJ-135. (Operated by American Eagle)

Not to pick a fight here. My point is that the work is the same.
Of course, I can't speak for all pilots at all companies. Different parts of the country have different needs. My company flies in the Northeast US and most of our schedules have between 4 and 7 legs per day. Most of the printouts I have seen of the pilots I have commuted with from United and Northwest have had between 2-4 legs per day. Of course, they are longer legs.
Peace.
