Hey all, my name is Mike and I'm currently a junior at Kent State and in the flight program. Being from the Cleveland area, going to KSU which has a bridge program with ExpressJet, and having a mother who works for CAL, it might be a little easier for me to intern at CAL or any of its subsidiaries. However, I really want to intern at Horizon. Fromwhat I understand most of their interns come from UND. I was browsing their website and couldn't find anything related to an internship application process. If anyone can help me or provide an insight, that would be much appreciated.

My advice would be to shoot for an internship at a major. Many get hired at Horizon without the internship, but connections with the big boys is what you want. Don't believe me, just ask the new CAL hires that were interns. Many of the airline internships don't pay, but the experience and connections are priceless. Just my two cents. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

One more question, do you guys think I'm hurting myself by not doing the local Expressjet internship and lowering my Mins to 500tt and 100me?

Well, if it's the best thing you can get on your plate right now, then there's no harm in doing so...but many people get hired at the regionals just for having the flight experience and being able to pass an interview. XJT internship, in my opinion, is better than nothing, but I'd pursue Majors/Legacies/LCC's first.

Dude, here's the straight shibby: do whatever internship you want, regardless of whether it will help your career or not. I did an internship with the AOPA Air Safety Foundation the summer after I graduated. Did it quicken my journey to a jet? No, but I had an absolute blast doing it.
Seriously, if it looks like fun to you, go ahead and do it. Intern with freakin' Disney if you want to. There's no way of knowing, right now, if an internship will help you two years down the road. The airline might not even EXIST when you're ready to apply!
