Reasons to go to Skywest

you took the time to look all that up???? wow! Again, what regional is getting 17-18 days off a month without 20+ years seniority? Relax Brah, all I am trying to say is wake up and take another big swig of that koolaid that you've been drinking and realize the airlines are not what they are cracked up to be anymore!! the time of 18 days off/month and $250,000/year salaries are over. Unless you are at SWA, every mainline pilot that I have talked to says get out now while you still can. What is your plan B? Go back to school for something else. They complain about the exact same things that we at the regional level do, pay, schedules, QOL, retirement, you name it! So when United calls you next week for your big 747 interview, just remember it is going to be the same thing you've been doing except starting over at the bottom on reserve. Also, for your information, you can make alot more than $40,000/yr at AMF if you want to! until next time!

I think RickAir definitely refuted every one of the points against SKW. The bottom line is that regional airline lifestyle is much different than the cargo flying Piston flies. I don't think one is better than the other, just very different. Working harder and longer everyweek to ensure that you're home everynight is a sacrifice some wouldn't want to make.

I've flown with several FOs in the last couple years that spent 3-5 years at AMF, and then came to SkyWest with well over 1000 PIC Turbine. They found they coundn't make another move without the 121 time. One guy had over 4000 PIC turbine. I've also flown with a guy from Airnet that had been a Lear captain, he also had a couple thousand TPIC. Every regional out there will give you a better schedule than AMF.

That may not be true for all. I work here at pinnacle and i hear a lot, not everyone, say they are getting junior manned all the time. In a year and a half i have never been called to be junior manned. and i had things they way you did. sitting reserve for 10 days and not flying once. but other fo's were getting called all the time. He does have a point though. A friend of mine in ord has been called to be junior manned several times, and he has only been there 6 months. Luckily he can politely refuse which is nice since here we can only refuse 1 a month. Not trying to say skywest is bad or getting into the squable going on here, just putting in some info for you to consider.

I'm with DUVIE! Whoever said AMF is a better way to go than SKW? not me! All I meant was that the shiny jet is not always the best direction to go to be happy and the leatherjackets got mad. It just depends on what works best for you and you guys turned it into a AMF versus SKW battle. They are both great in their own ways! next topic, please!

I would like to know what facts were inaccurate for my own knowledge. Im not be sarcastic i just want to know what you all love about Skywest. I work for a union carrier and I can't see any advantages to working for a nonunion carrier. Min days off? Line guarantee? Min line guarantee?

hey genious, In response to your blast, i would like to know how am i providing "totally bogus info"? Don't get mad at me, this info was provided by freinds that work there. you have some excuse on there for every example i mentioned. All I hear is a bunch of excuses out of you! "the hourly rate is better than average" 19.02/hr is better than the average? hmmm Where? and no, guarantee is not reduced in training at most regionals! Maybe just the ones you work at! Also, what is your duty and trip rig? "the rigs are good by regional standards" Are they good by regional standards or just by your standards? it may be different now but you did have to pay for your jepps at one point did'nt you? Well I should hope you get positive space in training? I mean they are training you to fly their airplanes, are'nt they? nice come back! Your informal commuter policy can just as eaily work against you as it can for you. what is the policy on being extended? is it unlimited extensions? it doesn't do too much good to form a union after you have already been let go, now does it??? Brah, I am not saying SKW is a bad place to work, I have debated going there myself. but it is just not what you guys who work there make it out to be! Especially, with the leather jackets and all!
It's OK if your friends tell you bad info; it's a poor reflection on you if you believe take it as gospel, and it's a REALLy poor reflection on your judgement if you pass it off to others unverified, especially others who might use that info to make a job decision.
Everything you said was undoutedly true...in 1989. I didn't pay for my Jepps and neither will any new hires. First year pay sucks at SKW, but you will make it up second year (plus bonuses). What does an amflight professional know about rigs? I know about rigs from working at multiple airlines...trust me, SKW has better ones than most, and many have none at all.
I'm not defending SKW because they were the first one to call me and I'm trying to justify being there. I selected SKW from among a variety of regional and fractional employers...they were the best opportunity in the West, and one of the best in the nation (geography ruled out AWAC, XJet, etc.) Horizon is probably better, but commuting into the Pac NW from Cali is brutal.

10 days off min, 15-16 typical, 17-18 possible depending on your domicile and bidding preference. Max days off does not really seem to go senior, cuz you have to take a light flying schedule & less money naturally.
Guarantee is 75, lineholders normally fly 80-85, credit 100 unless you use PBS to minimize your schedule.
I don't think not having a union is a particular advantage or disadvantage but it certainly doesn't hurt anything at SKW. Alpa didn't anything of value at my last job (well they collect dues in a very reliable manner) If management doesn't keep our overall compensation and QOL high, then we'll get the union...
Several other regionals are at the top of the spectrum, probably better than SKW, but SKW has the best geography for me, which is why I'm there. If you want to live on the east coast I might recommend XJet or AWAC.
