Why do you say it's smart to not take on flying. Granted you can't staff it today, but doesn't extra flying usually come first before staffing ramps up? I don't know but it looks like that's how Skywest is doing it. Pretty damn sure if they wanted to entice people to Express Jet they'd find a way

Exactly. Trust me if you announce new dual class flying the airline will staff.( I.e. PSA 3 years ago). No one is gonna go to a place that has no erj flying past 2017 unless an announcement is made.
And as far as upgrade time goes, the CRJ side will be about 6 years within the next year. |

And Skywest is startiing to falter on the flying that they've committed to as well.
IIRC, the ERJ renewal talks don't even begin until later this year. So that would be why they don't have anything slated for further out yet. But yet, the doom and gloom of many kill this airline. I'm not saying that we don't have our problems, as we do, but we are still in a much better position that many others as well. Before LOA 15 we probably would not have gotten the new hires even if we got new airplanes. Our new hire pay was one of the lowest in the industry and our upgrade time still would have been at least 3 or 4 years. Now that new hire pay is 37 for the 200 and 40 for the 70/90, I think that if they announnced growth we would be able to get the new hires. Again this is all just opinion. I hope something good happens. I'm coming up on 4 years here and have no desire to go to another regional to get PIC time. I've already done the lateral move thing once, I'm not going to do it again. |

Guess big U's fleet plan of 125, 50 seat RJ's by the end of 17 is nothing at all to worry about.

Could be good, or could be bad for the ERJ side. Plus, that is a plan that is 15 months away, a lot can change between now and then.

I don't think I would plan my career starting at an already dying regional on assumptions that may or may not happen.

unless they cancel the position notices come november. I'm at almost 9 years and still can't hold junior CA. I don't think the company really wants to upgrade anyone right now. More FOs leaving than CAs
Even if i lived in base, after 9 years its probably time to move on in order to escape severe vareer stagnation. |
