Just did this a few weeks ago. As previously mentioned:
1. Make an appointment with the FSDO
2. Show up with a paper 8710 filled out. The online system will not give the inspector the option to remove the 61.167(b) restriction.
3. Show up with your logbook up-to-date. My inspector wanted to see my paper log books. Not sure if electronic is acceptable.
4. Show up with your cert, medical, passport, etc.
5. Hope you get an inspector that actually knows how to do this.

Should take no more than an hour or two to issue you a temp certificate. You can also do this same process with a DPE but of course they will charge you, so I've heard, $50 or so.

Hope this helps

Sounds easier to have the company do it for you.

Very true, but was thinking that if I have to look for work for whatever reason, it's better to have it removed already....even though it probably wouldn't make a difference. Anything can happen in a regional.

Not every company can do it for you. Or at least it used to be that way. I also thought I was going to be able to do it during a subsequent training event, but Mesa check-airmen were not authorized to do it, at least when I got hired about two years ago. Same thing with RAH. So I ended up going to the local FSDO with a paper 8710, logbook and all other documents mentioned here. It took about an hour and several calls to Oklahoma City to figure out how to remove the restriction.

Is good to know some companies are doing it now.

Check Airmen do not have the authority to add/delete anything from your certificate at any company. It would have to be a APD or TCE.

You are right. Point is, I was told that on my check-ride a company APD was not going to be able to remove the restriction.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I reached all the requirements to remove the restriction from my ATP about 6 months ago but haven't gone to the FSDO to get it removed. Is it worth making an appointment with them or just waiting until I upgrade at my airline early next year?

The important thing is to get it done prior to upgrade. That said, might as well get it taken care of sooner rather than later so it's done.

I just waited until upgrade. They’ll tell you to fill out the 8710 and which boxes to check. APD takes care of the rest at the checkride.

Either wait till you upgrade or FSDO. Some companies don't like you being a Boy Scout. Mine discourages it till you upgrade because if the DPE or FSDO did something incorrectly, it's a PAIN IN THE A$$ to fix.

I did mine at the FSDO because I was already there for my CFI renewal. So I killed two birds with one stone so to speak. The ASI bypassed ICARA and did it via a Microsoft Word Temporary Cert template. He handed me the Temp, and I hand him a prefilled 8710 to send into OKC.

Everything with the R-ATP is still very murky, for some odd reason. I spent two hours with the APD after my CRJ Oral figuring out how to add a Type Rating to an R-ATP. It took a call to OKC and a backdoor ICARA approach to solve the issue. Apparently, it's EXTREMELY uncommon.
