They actually also provide a food stipend. Don't remember the exact amount. Definitely faster than anything else though. I flew 82 hours in 9 days.

Gotcha, I was in the hiring process right before they introduced it and they told me they were only paying for housing and that I would have to pay for food.

Since I was flying so fast at my old job I didn't bother doing it when it went live...

So I have been in corporate for awhile with an on call schedule, never usually gone from home more than about 4 days at the time. What should I expect in the 121 world as a new FO?

Also, commuters, are alot of you guys commuting the day of or the night before? Lets say a one leg commute from an airport with multiple flights daily to your base.
Thanks

Coming from an on call operation I can tell you that the QOL here is night and day difference. I was able to hold weekends off on RSV right out of training. I got a line in LGA after 3 months and have had 15-17 days off including weekends since I got my line. I don't commute so I can't answer the second half of the post. I can't express how much better my QOL and home life is now at RAH.

Haven't been on reserve under the new contract, so someone can correct me if I'm wrong. But typically if you're on reserve starting at 3am you're gonna have to come in the night before. We have a 2 hour call out which you can be commuting in on during. So with a 3am reserve you'd have to be in base by 5am- which probably isn't going to happen. If you have 10am reserve, you don't have to be in base until noon. However if you get called out on your last day of 10am reserve you risk having to work late and not being able to catch the last flight home.

One nice benefit with the new contract is an automatic release if they don't call you within 4 hours of the end of your last day's reserve period. As a commuter to reserve I used to try and get blocks of 6 days of reserve so I'd have longer stretches of days off between. Nothing is worse than having to commuting 5 or 6 times a month because you have short stretches of days on/off.

Ive been able to get by almost two months without actually having to go to my base since OE (we have out of base reserves and I live in another base...), but recently I have had to make the commute...

For me it depends on the day of the week (weekends have less flight availabilities), time my reserve starts vs time of flights available, and the loads for the flights that fit my schedule. If loads are really tight the day of, I commute the night before. If loads are ok and I have at least two flights that I can list for to make it to base, I go the morning of. We have a two flight commuter clause, so if you list for two flights prior to your assignment and can't make it to base, you are not pentalized as far as occurrences against you go. This gets you out of that day, not the whole reserve period or trip assignment.

They can schedule up to 117 limits and contractually up to 6 days of reserve at a time and up to five days for a single trip pairing.
