Republic Problems

Don't listen to all these negative responses. Pilots by nature are whiners and habitual complainers. They could make $1,000,000 a year and they'd still find something to b--ch about.
Here's the facts:
Massive retirements are coming. Movement at all levels will be swift.
Regionals are facing a staffing crisis. You could have your pick with any regional. If you meet the minimums and have a pulse, you'll get hired. Eventually, a lot of flying will get shifted back to the legacies due to regional staffing issues.
Pay at legacies are back to pre 9-11 levels. After 2 year's at a legacy, you will make six figures.
Basically, when you are done with college, you can go to your pick of whatever turd regional you want, spend a year putting up with crap (think of it as an internship), then move on to a legacy carrier and start your real career. If you enjoy making six figures, working 14-15 days a month, and having great benefits such as healthcare and free travel, then this will be a great career and a great time to get in.

A year???? Seriously kiddo, any advice you get on this subject aside from "nobody can predict what the regionals will be in coming years" is just from pilots pulling crap out their a$$e$. I can't believe this thread is still going...oh wait, yea I can...

I am in a similar situation as the OP, just that I am older and spent 15 years in IT engineering nearing the majic number now to make the switch...

Hey, Texas pilot... I like your positive post, however spend 1 year at a regional? Only ONE year! Wow, I'd love that.

That is my prediction. The retirements coming up will be massive. I forsee most people that go to a major will be regional FO's. There's already a bunch of regional FO's getting hired because there are a ton of regional lifer Captains that aren't going anywhere. Plus, the regionals are going to shrink. I think you are going to see super fast movement in the future.

Yeah it's going to take years to get through the 17,000 current regional pilots who are qualified and want to go. I seriously doubt someone hired in 2016 will only spend one year at a regional.

To the OP, don't worry about Republic, the management here refuses to change their labor relations. We are already bottom of the barrel as far as QOL and compensation. I believe you'll see the CEO get a cushy golden parachute at American cause he is Doug Parker's homie. Meanwhile Republic will continue to park airplanes and downsize, possibly be bankrupt by the time you have enough hours to even get a job here.

I don't think we'll be BK, but I do see us using CHQ as a staffing agency till we get a real TA. (I think we'll see something after the disaster that will be this summer here) Once you get the time plug in and see where everyone is at. Everything is up in the air. Let people bid on you rather than the other way around.
