You look out for the idiot that is going to run into you because he's too busy reading the paper to realize that he is getting ready to kill you...

You need to stop and seriously ask yourself why you want to be an airline pilot. If it is to just fly airplanes then find a career that pays well and rent and/or buy when you get the bug. I cannot stress to you enough that an airline job will destroy the love of flying quicker than anything there is. Guys and gals don't care about flying when their lives are slowly dismantling around them. Pay is awful and being away from friends and family, especially on holidays will wreak your life and it will not get better or easier. It is not a good career choice any more.
I am 100% dead serious.

I could not possibly disagree with that more. Since we're making appeals to "higher powers" here, I personnally know of two F16 accidents (both fatal) due to spatial disorentation that were NOT in clouds. One of the best safety seminars I went to discussed "PVFR"-- pretend VFR. Yeah, technically you could have better than 1,000 and 3, but not have a prayer of keeping the airplane upright without the gauges.

Maybe a 10 year. I can assure you that they'll make it so they get their money's worth, and by 10 years, I mean spending 10 years where they need you, such as at the regional airline. The "contract" will hang the golden carrot of a guaranteed "slot" at the major airline...if everything goes right many years down the road. Although they hired out of HS before, now they have insurance requirements, stockholders and all sorts of regulatory agencies to appease. What worked "before" won't work now.

I know some guys who have done ANA contract work and the captains won't let them do anything but "aircraft scan" on Pacific crossings. Talk about a boring job.

Dreamtofly,
I like your enthusiam and the fact that you're pursuing your dream and not those of the disgruntled on here. I agree with many in that the airline industry as a whole will look a lot different once you obtain enough hours to qualify for the regional airlines. Forgive BZZT as he has always had a bad attitude about life in general. I worked at Eagle for over 3 years and loved every minute of it. There is life after the regionals and it's not always about qualifications but about attitude and desire.
I think you are headed in the right direction by doing your research and commend you for your efforts. If you want to grab lunch this week sometime I live in the Villanova area and would be more than happy to discuss some of your flight training options with you.
BZZT, please stop polluting the forums with constant negativity! We get the fact that you hate your life at Eagle but your elitist attitude is why you're still there.
