I cannot believe you asked the question about the headset. Deciding on what airline to join, depending on the headset is dumb. Besides that, there are David Clarcks in the plane, they are free.

There is only one airframe you will get hired to 170. One certificate you will get hired to : Republic.

Travel benefits is a big unknown at this point. You'd think that company will let us have UA, AA, DL benefits when they join certificates, but I am not holding my breath. AA is crap dela crap benefits. No more buddy passes, no more business/first on AA, etc.
Umm, thanks ?

Why can you not believe it and you are making a lot of assumptions - talk about dumb.

I never stated that a head set would be the deciding factor of what airline I chose. I ask because I'm a helicopter guy, spent 800 bucks on a Lightspeed Helicopter model and I'm not trying to blow another 800 bucks on a whatever is TSOed ANR headset. RJET offers a headset so I asked what kind of headset.

Wow, someone actually had legit reason to ask something even though it you personally wouldn't have asked it...

Any one here based out of DCA? This looks like the least painful commute for me and I'm trying to rack and stack my base dream sheet.

How do you like DCA? Pros/cons?

I have two friends based out of DCA. They live on based, one in Arlington VA and the other in Baltimore. Where do you plan to commute?

Where are you going to commute from ? On the FO side pretty much all the bases are open to a new hire. Some are more desirable (like MIA) than others.

I cannot emphasize this enough, the airline is going through transition right now with the Ch.11 process. What you see today, may not be valid 6 months down the road.

Are you flexible enough to commute elsewhere?

I'll be commuting out of GSP (Greenville, SC). I can fly a 1 leg from here to DCA, PHL, LGA, ORD, and EWR.

Yes, I'm flexible given that I have a one-legger to 5 domiciles. However, the other 4 are near 2 hour legs and DCA is closer to 1 hour. But as I understand it (I'm retired mil and new to 121), there's more to QOL than just the commute time. I'm looking for the other tangibles/intangibles to consider (how much reserve flying, crashpad quality/cost, pain of flying out of that area, etc.). Appreciate it!

We do some EWR and ORD flying. That may make things easier for you in terms of bumping off other people. I stayed in LGA and EWR crashpads, they are in the range of $250/month. I'd go with places that have more flights than just a geographical distance to be honest with you.

Regardless of anything, you will be a commuter. I'd say EWR / LGA will work better for you than DCA.

I was told by a friend that EWR, and LGA are junior, and easy to get off reserve.

I am truly interested in ORD though, any thoughts on how long it would take to bid over to ORD?

Thank you very much for all the great info guys.

It seems you can hold ORD out of training or within a few months of that. Reserve however is running at about a year and a half from DOH.

Yes, I got EWR out of training, one other pilot from my class got ORD. Reserve in EWR and LGA- about a month, makes life significantly easier.
