Just my take on it, I'm not in the 135 or frac world so no bias as far as that goes. I understand there was an engine failure of sorts, and some reason gyro's failed after they reported the airport in sight.

Now, with the winds the way they were, I would've thought even in the "visual" conditions they were supposedly in(didn't see a Wx report), I would've made damn sure I landed on 27. I've gotten to ride in a P180 once, taxied to the runway, let the PIC do the rest. Definately an interesting airframe with some squirrely tendencies. Definately not one I'd want to land in a quartering tailwind in normal conditions, let alone with a failure.

Glad everyone walked away, but turning an engine failure into a flipped over airframe is not in the cards for me.

I'm with USMCFLYR on this one.... Let the NTSB figure it out, just glad no one was killed.

Why the heading confusion? Is there not a wet compass per regs installed? They didn't notice the winds when hand flying? Something is off.

Kinda what I was thinking, although admittedly there is likely more info to come I am sure.

The piaggio compass is notoriously wrong. I make sure to leave it out of my scan as much as possible. If the pitot heat, windshield heat, avionics, or forward wing heat is on, each system will add about 20 degrees of error. This does not dismiss any other decisions made, but the only thing I trust in that plane is the inclinometer.

It's not uncommon to be 90-120 degrees off. The correction card is calibrated with avionics off. Not much help. Welcome to the world of Italian thinking.

After an exhaustive three second google search, I found an Avanti POH. It says there are two parallel starter/generators (one each engine).

So, if there is an engine failure, then one of the generators has failed, at least part of the normal electrical system has failed, AND the Compass Card is no longer valid.

I'm not sure how to read your statement considering, because I'd hate to think they had ZERO backup data in a single engine failure. Considering how it turned out in VMC imagine had it been IMC? Avanti is Part 23 cert. I assume? Any Redundancy?
