Quote: Passed the psycho analysis and now invited to "Day 1 Event". Waiting to hear back with confirmation on travels and hotels.

Anyone else joining me? I was explained it will be a Three day process. Day 1 will include just a sim check. If passed will be asked to stay for Day 2 and 3, which is a full medical check up at a clinic in Louisville and CRM/problem solving group work. Day 3 will be a meeting with HR and a Captain. Not much intel available on willflyforfood.com

Anyone know of a good UPS interview prep they can recommend?

Quals:

9750 total

Currently Emirates 777 Capt.

My wife is from Seattle and we want to be based in Anchorage and commute. Any idea how long it will take to get that base?

Going on year 9 in the Sandbox and about ready to return to America.
This is a new hiring process, as UPS has not hired since 2007. Anything on willflyforfood is outdated.

I would recommend Emerald Coast for interview prep.

It used to be a 1/2 day process (sim and HR interview, about 1 hour each)

Medical is new, but maybe they want to get drug screen done ASAP so they can get classes filled right away.

CRM exercise is new also.

Anchorage used to be the junior base but not anymore. My guess is that you could get it within a year, though.

I don't know your situation or age, but leaving a Capt job at Emirates for UPS???

In any case, good luck!

Quote: Does UPS hire into a pool? If offered the job, how long can you defer your training start date due to mil sep, etc. ?

Anyone get a call to interview yet after completing the assessment?

Do they pay for your travel to/from the interview?

From a previous post, is it correct to assume that it would be possible to get ONT out of the gate? Is that because there is a lot of movement between domiciles as a junior reserve bubba?

A new thread just started mentioned hiring might ramp up to 200 pilots....
In the past they did hire into a pool, so that may continue.

My guess is that they want people who can start ASAP. IF they do end up hiring 200, then maybe you would be able to defer, but I wouldn't count on it. They will ask you at the interview when you are avaliable to start.

ONT may be available right away, or in a few months, or a year. No way to know exactly.

When they were last hiring (7 years ago) they did not pay for travel or hotel for interview. Not sure if that has changed.

good luck!

Just my opinion, but if you decide that UPS is where you want to be, and are lucky enough to be selected for the interview process, if asked "when can you start", you answer should be "Monday!" If you're currently working at another carrier, they'll understand. If they don't....tough. Get on at the beginning of any wave forming. You'll be happier for the rest of your career there for making that choice. Again, just my opinion, and it's worth exactly what you paid for it.

medical is not new. You used to do it the day after your interview if you passed. Then it changed and you didn't do medic until they called for a class date (2006). I heard it changed again after that where there wasn't a medical.

true

there was a ANC FO just displaced to MIA and he was told it would probably be 3 years before he got back.

It will be interesting to see what the new process is.

I guess my info is outdated already! Sounds like they are calling pilots with LOTS of experience.

Quote: How does the reserve system work? I have only relatively senior captain contacts and they don't say much about reserve life.
Use the APC search function and you'll find several threads regarding UPS reserve lines and life.

And to be honest, I don't think a relative new hire could hold RSV in most bases/fleets. At least that's been my experience in SDF and ANC.

It goes senior to a point because some of the lines on the domestic fleets are so terrible, RSV is a better option for both commuters and locals.

I don't know if I could get an interview?!?

In the early days, you could get hired at UPS with some King Air time, but times have changed. I doubt I could get through the application process today:

54 years old
7500 hours, mostly PIC, all multi
Typed: 75/75, 727, dc8, md11
Lots of international experience

You'd be amazed to know how many current FOs wouldn't meet the post 9/11 hiring minimums.

Has anyone done anything with internal reccs? The application wouldn't allow it. Has anyone had someone walk something in or are they not accepting that right now?
