FedEx Hiring
Quote: It may or it may not. If there are 50 pay-only pilots ahead of you on the list, you're not 200 - you're 150.
The lines a P/O pilot gets awarded still gets awarded to someone else further down the list. So, the ones in front of you don't count. The ones behind you just reduce the total number of pilots you would use to do the math on what your actual percentage is.

30 pilots and you're bidding #15 (50%)

With 10 P/O pilots in front of you, now you're technically bidding 5 out of 20 (25%).

An even split, 5 ahead and 5 behind, that's 10 out of 20, so you're back to 50%.

Obviously the percentage calculated isn't really as important as the number of P/O pilots in front of you, which move your actual bidding position closer to #1 and give you access to that many more choices.

When the bid for Oct comes out, check out the "you're bidding X out of Y" numbers you see when you click on the link on the PFC homepage to submit your bid. The way they come up with those numbers is by removing the P/O pilots from the bid numbers. Go to the bid seniority list in the Oct bidpack, find your name and number there, subtract the number of P/O pilots ahead of you from your number and the total P/O pilots from the actual total, you'll get the numbers displayed on the bid submission page.

Right, I understand that. I guess I was looking at it differently. If there are 110 pilots and 10 are in pay only, they only build 100 lines. So the actual percentage you bid is irrespective of how many are in pay only ahead of you. In other words, you aren’t really number 60 out of 110 or 60 out of 100. You are actually 50/100. It’s just the way Fedex includes pay only pilots in the monthly bidding seniority list. I can see that if you happen to be one of the pay only pilots that month, then it would be different. I’m probably just still used to a different way it was done in a previous life.

slightly off topic for the hiring thread but wasnt sure where else to stick it. On my Fedex PC site I cannot get the "incomplete" status profile to change to complete. I have scanned the application so many times and had others as well. Everything is checked or filled out so I have no clue how to get the status to change.

Oh and there are green check marks next to every section...so again not sure why I'm still receiving the incomplete status.

thanks,

Disregard. Found a thread that addressed this.

Which thread is that in, because my PC has the exact same problem. (I've emailed PC, but being the holiday weekend...)

I think I found it as well. Looks like it's actually complete, even though it says "incomplete," if it has the green check marks, and is okay to publish. Just a bug, apparently.

I’m an AA pilot and at 36 yr old I am projected to be top 4% at retirement with AA. FedEx has recently offered me an interview. Aside from pay, what should I be weighing when thinking about FedEx vs AA?

I was hired at FedEx 2 years ago at 36 and will retire in top 3%, feel free to PM me with questions.

Do you commute? If so, do you plan to continue commuting for the foreseeable future? If yes, I'd consider FedEx just on that alone. If you live in base, or plan to move to base, that would be a tough call. Lot's of variables... how long you've been there, do you enjoy the type of flying, etc.

Lots of us have left one of the big 3 pax airlines to join Purple for a variety of reasons. I've met a few from AA. There are pros and cons with each, as with an airline and in any profession.

Aside from pay... I think it would be wise to consider: commute, type of flying, progression (you won't get to the left seat of a WB faster anywhere else), retirement (which as of late is TBD), culture. Not in any particular order.

One thing to note from my relatively short time here. There's a pretty HUGE difference between being junior at Purple and being senior at Purple. Moreso than any other airline I've worked at. So consider that. I know AA as LC reserve with 117 rest rules which makes being junior somewhat more palatable. Once you gain a little seniority here, I can't imagine an easier way to make a really good living.

Just my .02. Good luck on your decision! I say go to the interview. Can't make a choice until you do that and get an offer.

Hey everybody. First post, but I've been a lurker for a while. I searched the forum & read all 304 pages in this thread, but this is the only post I found on my question...

Quote: The F-16 would fall under jet aircraft. The multi-engine only applies to turboprop aircraft.
That quote is in regards to this qualification requirement: "1500 hours total fixed-wing time as pilot-in-command (PIC) or second-in-command in multi-engine turbo-prop A/C or jet A/C or combination thereof (GTOW 12,500)"

Can someone please verify that the current intent of that requirement is 1500 hours in a multiengine turboprop or 1500 hours in any jet? Or... should it be read as 1500 hours in a multiengine turboprop or a multiengine jet?

I'm an Air Force test pilot kind of guy retiring next September 1st with mostly single seat fighter time. I have about 1100 hours of multiengine turbine time now (including UPT time) with about 2100 total military hours. All but a few hours of my military time is either jet or multiengine turboprop time. I have about 1500 hours of civilian time too (mostly VariEze & RV-6), but that's mostly single engine piston stuff.

Thanks!

Well, shoot. I missed another post from last year. Searching for F-16 is the key... Looks like single engine fighter time counts towards the 1500 hour requirement. Excellent.
