All percentages are FO seat in MEM since that’s what 98% of new hires go

Also keep in mind that your actual bid percentage is much better because a substantial amount of pilots are in pay only status because of things such as medical, mil leave, instructors not bidding etc. In most WB fleets this betters your bidding percentage by about 10%.

757: 43%
767: 82%
Airbus: 77%
MD: 75%
777: 93%

Great info, thank you!

So update those apps regularly.
How soon after the 12 month mark are they getting a second chance?

The 3 I know will interview in Sept/Oct and they are currently at the 14-16 month mark from last interview.

Currently upgrade on the 757 is under 3 years. In the last 2 bids most Jr capt. award was around 2 year seniority. Using historical and future data you would be top 50% in the right seat of the 757 in about 1.5 years. Widebody fleet would vary by AC. But as a data point those hired 1.5 years ago are about 57% in right seat of MD-11, 75% on 777/Airbus and 90% on the 767 because they havent hired into that seat in a year in MEM and many of the hires in 2015 and 2016 that went into the 757 have bid to the right seat of the 767.
If UPS had a B scale like Fedex (757), lesser overall retirement benefits, lesser baseline guarantee, maybe the 757 would also have a 2-3 year upgrade as well. The grass is always greener on the “other side”.

And by the way, 18 month seniority on MD at Fedex is most definitely not 57% seniority, more like 80%. Big difference.

For prospective job seekers, the global picture is the best piece of the puzzle. As a guy who recently had offers from Fedex, UPS and a Legacy, I can say one thing. NO one job is better than the other. No doubt whatsoever Fedex (this being a Fedex thread) is an absolutely wonderful job, great company, great benefits, people, etc. No doubt whatsoever. But, to paint somewhat inaccurate pictures only serves to provide misleading information to potential new hires.

The upgrade in the 757 at Fedex is running at 2-3 years, but only because the 757 is on a B scale and the schedules are aweful. I have at least 4 friends at Fedex with 10+ years, 2 in the MD, 2 in the AB, that would not touch the 757 PIC with a 10 ft pole. The difference in pay, loss of QOL, etc, is simply not worth it. As a 10+ year SIC in the MD you can make close to base pay as a 757 PIC.

Again, not bashing Purple at all, whoever gets hired there is very fortunate, but the numbers being thrown around (percentages) are not entirely accurate.

That's odd, the mandatory retirements doesn't come close to replacing half of the list in 7 years. My math says we will only replace 1152 pilots, a little more than a thousand short of half.

Mandatory Retirements:

To each their own. That two year 757 captain can drop a third of his line and still make what he was making for the month as a two year widebody FO. But, chances are he doesn’t drop anything and just sits reserve out in his back yard by his pool.

It's absolutely since college. I've reviewed many apps, only those that comply with the instructions get pulled for interviews. I know it's a pain.

So I've a question regarding the post college stuff... I entered AD Military right after High School... I didn't complete my college degree until almost 15 years later.

Do I not add all of that military and civilian work history prior to the degree?

Only the time after my college degree??

Sure you're not...

Maybe if UPS didn't have hundreds of management pilots they wouldn't have furloughed your "brothers" stranded them in Anchorage with no move package back to the States and then held them hostage for years while they kept hiring and increasing the ranks of your built in replacement pilot force.

We all live in glass houses.

Enjoy your career at UPS.
