Quote: Not hiring for 4-5 months may hurt the recruiting. How many in the pool (if there is one) might go to a legacy and get some bodies beneath them and think “why go someplace that is only hiring at trickle” with a 7 year old contract that is less than industry standard with no TA in sight?”
That would be true even if they keep hiring. It’ll only get worse once UA and AA get their TAs.

FedEx Update:

Pausing hiring until the end of May 23. Will reevaluate hiring at that time.

Parked 5 jets with an additional 11 by May 23.

Many bid packs will see minimum guarantee.

Shrinking not growing. New aircraft deliveries will be used to retire older aircraft.

Evaluating existing crew bases to ensure they still meet the needs of the network. System Bids to rebalance the crew force will likely be needed.

My opinion, FedEx pilots hired within the past year or so will be feeling the pain in 2023. Many of the fast Captain upgrades will be excessed to First Officers.

Merry Christmas !!!

The hiring for the past two years was for the COVID plus up. COVID is over. The e-commerce boom is over. People are back into the big box stores. The question is, did they stop hiring early enough or are they overstaffed?

My opinion: I don't think we'll furlough, yet. However, I think FedEx could easily furlough 300-400 pilots easily.

Very simple math: down to 400 airplanes at 12-14 pilots per plane, 4,800 to 5,600 pilots. Your attrition this year is about 200 or so?? So unless they want furlough just to spite (as UPS did) it doesn’t make sense. Now if they reduce the fleet further, who knows.

Exactly..i don’t see furloughs either. More then enough retirements. And without a contract insight. A-lot at the bottom will be chasing the dollar to the passenger world in the coming months.

This will almost certainly be true…

I’ve already spoken to someone that came here a year ago who is now thinking he made the wrong decision. He’s already put in his apps with UA and DAL, and I’m certain he’s not the only one that has done so in the past few months. The general feeling of a weak/ineffective union and incompetent management that can’t manage snow events is to blame. The company thinks their stuff doesn’t stink but it reeks to high Heaven. Wall Street in unhappy with their poor performance and so are customers.
