The six year guy isn’t going anywhere. But I also live a twenty minute drive from the United TC. After accruing 15k in hotel isolation funds, I feel like I’ve had a psychological operation run me. I decided to start making noise on these boards and may come back to JF. My darts and insites have been met with quiet responses. It’s time to make some noise. I’m here for the duration, but don’t think I didn’t run the numbers.

I also live close to the United TC, and even turned down United to come here almost 5 years ago. I don’t even know if they’d hire me again, but I’d sure have to be desperate to leave my widebody CA seat to start over again somewhere else. I won’t say I’d never do that, but things would have to certainly be dire for me to do so. But IF FedEx wanted to become the next Atlas or something, then yes absolutely I would leave.

This place isn’t near the company I joined over 22 years ago. I’d say if you have been here 5 years or more….hang on it will get better. Things are not as bad as peeps say. Though times make strong people. I think we have an adjustment period just like 2002, 2007,2012,2019… before the Wuhan virus etc…
I remember my tax dollars were bailing out the majors a couple years ago. Do they have to pay that back?😡

Lol I love APC.
”we’re not hiring anymore….FURLOUGHS ARE COMING!!!!”
fwiw, I have often danced with the idea of going to a different carrier. I keep coming back to the realization that making a jump just because of the TA that is (or isn’t) in place today would be absolutely crazy.. Don’t forget that just a year ago we were the place to be. And in XX number of months it will be again. Then it won’t. Then it will. Like in the stock market, those chasing todays news have already missed the boat.
For those on the fence, I wouldn’t make any decision based on the emotionality people show here, or for what the current TAs say. I’d make the decision based on what works for my life and my belief in the company, it’s management, it’s people and it’s business plan (and THAT is a whole different convo at this point……)

This is not true. UPS has not said anything officially about parking planes. They have said decisions will need to be made, but nothing concrete regarding parking any Pratt planes.
The DC-10 had a similar issue in the mid 2000’s. Operators faced dropping a crap load of $$$ to bring them up to date or park them. A third party company came up with a much cheaper fix and they kept operating for years. I heard rumors of something similar going on right now, a company working on a cheaper solution. UPS and Fedex do not want to get rid of the MD, it’s just a matter of $$$.
We do have 28 76s coming between ‘23 and ‘25, whether they will be for growth or replacement remains to be determined. One thing is for certain. None of our other fleets require replacement anytime soon. We just upgraded almost 200 planes giving them significant more life.

They already paid for 5, so it’s not an unwillingness. I’d bet it will be market rather than cost driven.

What’s the deal with the PWs? I’m not an MD guy but does FedEx also have this issue?

I guess you did not read my entire post. Apparently there is a third party company that is close to a solution at a much cheaper price. I believe they are applying for the approval with the Feds. No airplane can do what the MD does for the price and the footprint. As they are being used almost entirely for domestic purposes, I sincerely doubt UPS will introduce a new fleet like the 330/350 or 777 to do domestic hauling, they will probably just buy more 76s. Unless the plan is for a new fleet type to supplement the 74 internationally. In either case, UPS won’t buy anything unless it’s dirt cheap.
