So is he seriously helping in the interviews, making hiring decisidions, because that would be news for the IPA. Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt that some of our guys go to job fairs and help out ... what I doubt is that they have any say in the hiring process. If they do, good for them.

But if the union hasn't mentioned our involvement in the hiring process, I'd like to know why.
I do not believe their input is directly accounted for in the hiring process. What I do know is that there were UPS line pilots at the job fair I attended (one I knew, two others I met later) that were randomly paired up with job fair attendants to sit and talk about the same stuff everyone talks about at the job fairs. After that, I am not aware that the volunteers are consulted in way during the hiring process. While I did not specifically ask how much the volunteers are involved, I do know that my friend was unable to say or do more than my other six friends/former colleagues flying at UPS that wrote rec letters for me were able to do. Heck... I sat in the pool for over 4 months!

Don't mistake what I said earlier for anything more meaningful than what I actually said: "Think of the Job fair as step one of the interview because many of them are current pilots that are volunteering their time to be there interviewing potential crewmembers." First of all, I said "Think of (it) as step one..." Did I say it specifically was part of the interview? Nope. Second - Nowhere in that statement did I say they were involved past the job fair. I will admit that the word I used, "interview", could be misconstrued as something deeper. But, I quantified that prior in the statement with the word "there." "There" meaning at the job fair. My friend left the job fair went home after it was over. That was it! The other two I met after the job fair as I sat by a pool waiting for my flight out that night and they were doing the same. They were not in some super secret room, trying to undermine any part of the process.

So, if you want to hijack the thread, go for it. I just don't think that would be helpful to those trying to get on with UPS, which is the purpose of this thread. Maybe start another one if you want to have a public discourse on that subject. You won't find me there, though, because I'm not going to argue the pros or cons of their presence at the job fairs since I can see arguments for either side as being valid. All I did was give suggestions to those attending job fairs because people are asking for that kind of help and I thought my recent experience going through the process could be of some help. Sorry your feathers got ruffled!

Quote: Not sure what you’re asking with Q1. They are and have been consistently interviewing. I’ve heard reports of people with interviews in January 2019.

Q2. Internal Recs: I think the jury is still out on that one. However, in the past a large majority had letters.

Q3. Job fair experiences have mixed results from what I’ve read on these threads.

Keep in mind that the hiring team was revamped back in the summer so we don’t really know how they are running things now. C’mon recent new hires, pay it forward with some intel...
Interviewed Dec. 2017 and then heard nothing......out of the blue I got a call December 18 2018 for a CJO. Excited and in shock all at the same time!!

You didn’t hear anything as in you were not placed in the pool and the outcome of your interview was unknown until now???

Iflyme is ..somewhat correct. There ARE IPA volunteers going to different job fairs. Especially to the women-in-aviation seminar where a bunch of our lady pilots volunteer. ..but also obab, gapa and other venues.

HOWEVER you’re correct Cactus - they have NO say whatsoever in the hiring process. They’re merely there to talk about flying the line, to look at people’s resumes, give guidance, etc...
The union isn’t talking about it because the company hasn’t asked the union for help so this is strictly those specific volunteers. Somehow they got to know a few of the managers involved and, one way or the other, were asked to help out.
I wish IPA was involved in the process.

Congratulations. This gives a little hope to a long time poolie like me. I’ve been in the pool since April 2018.

Did you update you UPS application during the past year or do anything that might have facilitated this call?
