Right now there is a pool of mil pilots who previously passed on airline opportunities, and are now signing up. When that pool is exhausted (soon), the military only takes in X number of new pilots per year. Those pilots will get out only at specific career gates, and most will go to airlines at the point or not at all. That flow and the gates will remain steady state unless the military makes a big structural change (could happen, for any of several reasons).
I'm one of them and I agree with that assessment. The Army is already increasing its pilot active duty service obligation for flight school to be closer to the Air Force's. The RTP is a new phenomenon and it exploded due to a lot of guys thinking they had no options but to stay for the retirement realizing they can actually use their skills outside without spending thousands out of pocket. Most of these guys have families so the cost was the prohibitive factor. Now, most of them have now made the jump, or are in the process, so it will be slowing down. I'm one of the back enders. I still have another assignment to go before I can leave, and nearly all of the guys that haven't already jumped are staying until retirement in my unit.

Mil RW might be the last big pool of untapped mil pilots. But that too will reach steady state equilibrium eventually. The airlines probably still have some fine tuning to do on the RTP pathway.

Me and a buddy are RW guys new to OO and we were thinking we might be in the middle or on the tail end of the RW crowd. It seems like a lot of that fruit has or is falling right now and it'll settle down fast. We thought we were behind the power curve coming in now, a lot of friends of ours from the community jumped in the past two years. Sure is an interesting time and we're grateful for the opportunity. 10 years ago I was told there was no way we could fly for money outside of the military being a helicopter guy. And now look where the industry is.

The Army is about the slowest route there is to accrue flight time, with exceptions, which are rarer these days. The people in our class from that background were either retired from AD or guard/reserve guys with around 7+ years flying RW.

You're telling me. I'm a med officer, so if not for deploying I'd be under 300 hours 3 years after starting. Also why I'm flying fixed wing now out of pocket when I can afford it.

I’ve heard about the fire hose and to wait till they give you the info so you don’t learn the wrong stuff.. I have a few months before training so just looking for any advice! Feels like I should be doing something other than teaching to get ready?
FYI...I interviewed last week and the soonest class date for 175 was November. I’m on the waitlist for August.
