Why should you waste your money on a co-pay or time just because the company ask for it? Your sick time is yours and should be used when needed, without having to justify why you’re using it. Another issue is you’ll very likely hit the limit if those occurrences before having a chance of using all of your sick time.

Maybe it’s just my base, but I feel like the current management team at AA is really hands off with us, compared to some stories I hear from buddies at other major carriers.

Captains have told me it hasn’t always been this way, but at least right now I feel I can call in when I’d like without worrying about getting a phone call about it, let alone something stupid like needing to provide a note.

Every one of us always has a doctor’s note in our possession . Each time you get your medical your AME (a medical doctor) signed his name on that document. The FAR’s referenced on that document state that you cannot fly in a medically deficient state. Federal law associated with the possession of a FAA medical permits you on an individual basis to determine your fitness for flight.

If your company ever asks you for a doctor’s note just send them a copy of your medical signed by your AME and remind them that they already have your “doctor’s note” on file.

No, you’re getting paid to heal and get better. If that involves seeing a doctor, fine, if it doesn’t, fine.

Show me a CBA or FOM that says sick time accrual is pay so you can see a doctor.

NK: I can call in sick to take care of my wife and children, no note required. Was really unhappy we lost parents in the last contract.

Everywhere I've worked at that could ever require sick notes would also reimburse your side of the costs since the company was requiring it.
