Quote: I don’t like the implication that I have to engage in some forced social interaction with my coworkers just because I’m in aviation. Does a vet take his vet techs out on a a Tuesday night for cocktails? Do engineers go to happy hour 3 nights in a row midweek? Accountants?

CA I flew with on a long SAN layover - We HAVE to go to the oldest bar in San Diego! I’ll buy the first pitcher. The first? How much you planning on binge drinking? Thanks but there’s a boxing gym I like to hit up when I here. I’m scheduled for a class at 6am. You’re welcome to come... funny no one ever takes me up on that.

When I’m in MSY I usually take a class at the New Orleans school of cooking - open Bloody Mary bar and free flowing keg of Abita by the way.

Sometimes I go out and sometimes I don’t. And now as CA I don’t agree with the expectation that I’m supposed to be director of the fun committee. Each situation is unique. I see nothing wrong with hanging with the crew as long as you quit drinking before you quit thinking.
I would seriously buddy bid with you!

After my last 5 leg 190 (diversion) day in upstate NY I was like... I’ll buy all you guys a drink. Then I realized....it was 3am.

I’m starting to quit thinking after leg 3.

Quote: I had to ask too after 19 years as an airline pilot: “slam, click” is a guy who goes to his hotel room and closes the door and deadbolts it....either to be alone, or because he’s a social pyriah. Sometimes both.
Sometimes he just ****ing tired.

I would too. And I wouldn't get up before noon, given a choice, but I'd appreciate flying with someone who doesn't think that I'm somehow obliged to be their temporary Best Fwen, whether it be drinking or working out. Actual adults have actual lives which don't revolve around forcing some other dude to do whatever it is they like to do. *SLAM* *CLICK*.

There's some truth here. I like to work out first and eat dinner late. If you're good with that I'll meet for dinner, or drinks later.

If we arrive late, I'll grab a nightcap.

But other than that, typically doing my own thing. I'm sociable if the stars happen to line up.

Working at one of the”Misfit Toy” airlines like Alaska or Jetblue/Frontier/ Spirit it is even more important to steer clear of layover crew interaction....Frequently becomes obvious why a pilot/fa is at Alaska and not one of the Major airlines. Sketchy backgrounds and sketchy behavior come out on layovers...

Was that the guy running a bordello near IAH in combination with sex trafficking? Or was that a different UAL CA?

Now maybe if they wrote a few papers about safety and could discuss at length how bad the lodge food is for you, maybe you would change your mind?
