I hate to say it but had we not attacked (and then subsequently threatened them again) I doubt this would've happened.
We didn't attack "them", we took out an agent provacatuer operating against US citizens in a third country. They then attacked our (and other) forces. At that point they were justifiably nervous but they did it to themselves.

Israel is always nervous but they don't shoot down friendly airliners.

Another tragedy in a combat zone created by Iran.

I guess we're even now, we got one of theirs, they got one of theirs.

And if somebody hadn’t given them billions of dollars which they used many of to buy 29 Tor M1 and M2s at $25 million a unit plus spares, I doubt it would have happened too. And if the Russians hadn’t built the units or sold them to theocratic nut jobs, etc., etc., etc.

But go ahead, blame the US if it will make you feel virtuous and superior.

Yeah I don’t know why we even defend our embassies we should just let them march through, kill a couple dozen of the staffers, drag the ambassador through the street, and maybe they will get death to America out of their systems right?

“I’m sorry Mom. We didn’t mean to break your favorite table lamp. We know you always tell us not to play ball in the house, but we did anyway and we ended up busting your table lamp. But, you know, it’s partially your fault too. You should known better than to put your favorite lamp there- in that spot.”

The Iranians are trying to attack U.S. interests & personnel. It looks like they better put the safety back on the air defenses.

With the funeral stampede & the accidental shoot down, they’re only killing Iranian citizens.

I’m quite alright with a reduction in tensions, even if includes talking smack.

All my previous comments aside, I don't blame them one bit for throwing out the Shah (and the US) in '79. That was old-skool CIA adventurism, necessitated by the cold war (under the circumstances I don't really blame our guys for doing what they had to in order to contain the soviets either).

But their autocratic regime is still riding the revolutionary pony 40 years later to keep the people focused on an external bogeyman to maintain their gangster-state control. If they didn't do that, their people would likely start focusing on regime change to something more moderate (the people actually tried ten years ago, coincidentally there was soon another rash of external bad behavior on the part Qods, MOIS, and proxies).
