Virus can’t spread if we all quarantine and public confidence can build during the quarantine period. Most import, we don’t continue to spread to the point that hospitals run out of ventilators thus causing a death sentence for the elderly and others who contract and progress to the critical stage. The numbers are stacked against us absent a national quarantine. Tearing the band-aid off would probably be the beat thing for our industry and our nation as a whole.
We could ground every airplane in the country and a virus or other illness could still spread. People still drive, and more importantly there are people all over the country who could have been exposed at some point. They don’t live in a cave. They have families, friends, go shopping, school, church, etc. This whole deal is a panic and fear driven reaction by the mathematically challenged. The odds of catching this are very small, as are the odds of it being fatal. The company is doing the right thing. Reduce capacity to meet demand until people pull their heads out of their rear ends. They are expecting a severe, but temporary reduction in demand. That’s hardly something that would make a furlough cost effective. Fishing weather is here. Get out and enjoy your time at home.
