To the idiots who are high-fiving each other that COVID didn't kill 2 million US citizens:
1. You're cherry-picking one study, from the United Kingdom, about their predictions over how many infections and fatalities would occur if the virus was left
uncontrolled. You're welcome to read it yourself here:

1a. Here's another prediction from March 6. The American Hospital Association had a conference about COVID-19, and someone leaked a slide. They predicted 480,000 US deaths. Which after 4 months, we're 32% of the way there with the winter still ahead of us. By the time we're done with COVID-19 next year, this could very well be an accurate prediction.
In either case, predictive models are just that.
Models. And trying to create a model based around human behavior is like trying to predict lotto numbers. Also they were doing it in the blind because we knew next to nothing about SARS-CoV-2 in early March.
2. Comparing a devastating number that didn't come true to a tragic one that did come true doesn't make it any less tragic. 150,000 additional deaths this year so far due to gross negligence and incompetence. Pretty sad.
I've come to the conclusion that there is no level of death that will change your minds about the severity of this disease. As the death counts mount, your heels will dig in.
We hit a milestone today. A terrible one. There will be more to come.
