Quote: That would be unconstitutional.
I think the constitution is silent on that, intentionally so.

But I don't think congress would attempt to legislate mandatory vaccination for the general public, and I don't think they should. It's your body, and the crisis has not reached the catastrophic proportions that might justify something that invasive (if we had millions of ebola cases in the US, different story). Don't lose any sleep over that.

Quote: But employees can require it (unions should fight it) and FAA can require it maybe (AOPA should fight that).
I think the union should fight for the collective good of all of our careers, which is mandatory vaccination for customer-contact employees, including crew.

I doubt the FAA would require anything of the sort, it's way outside of their wheelhouse... they didn't even address the mask issue.

Quote: There is no reason it should be forced on anyone. Plenty of people will take it willingly so herd immunity is achieved.
It should not be, and will not be. It may (likely?) be a condition of your employment, but you are of course free to decline vaccination and employment.

You can’t force me to wear a mask!

but I should be able to force you to get a vaccine!

Quote: There’s plenty of precedence for legally required vaccination programs, get real. I can pretty much guarantee you had to get shots to go school (assuming you did). The libertarian message really is “personal responsibility” and “self government”; not selfish irresponsibility.
Actually the premise is self ownership. If I truly own my body then I can decide what I put into it. Otherwise I don't own my body, the government does.

School is a choice, and it is conditional. Many parents across the country dont send their kids to school because they don't want them to be vaccinated.

No one should force you to put something in your body you don't want.

On the other hand people should be free to get a vaccine if they choose to.

No, it’s freeloading. You want the benefits of society without participating fully in the burdens of society. Ayn Rand wrote of the glory of being self-made while on welfare living in subsidized housing, (and pharmaceutical grade methamphetamine but that’s another matter entirely). Go forth and build your Utopia, Galt. But go do it somewhere else.

And if they refuse, they can be excluded from crowds (malls, concerts, mass transit, public buildings ...) And their children can be excluded from schools. That would be fair. Anti-vaxxers keep their freedoms and the rest of us stay safe.

Maybe we can have some sort of visual aid applied to clothing to easily discern who has refused to be vaccinated - a red coronavirus symbol, perhaps.

Proof of vaccination via a phone app.

Or, everyone can grow up and get vaccinated.

I think comparing something that tangibly affects public health to ethnic mass genocide by a militarized fascist state is a false equivalency. Look, it's a fact that people who aren't vaccinated pose a threat to those who are. It is other people's business, it does affect them, it is within their right to exclude you, and your private property ends at the end of your driveway. Everyone whose going to get vaccinated will take the 'risk,' so they're not gonna be tolerant of someone who expects the best of both worlds. I don't see how flying 121 wouldn't require a vaccine, and if it's not airline policy, then it will likely be hotel policy, foreign customs policy, local city policy, etc. I hate saying it, but there are probably hundreds, maybe thousands, of qualified pilots who would get vaccinated, take your spot in a heartbeat, and wouldn't present all of those challenges to scheduling. We're kinda leveraged here.

You mean using a means to identify certain populations is acceptable - based on the circumstances?

I believe that people should be allowed to choose to be vaccinated or not, but that a choice to not vaccinate may be met with inability to do certain things. Some may call that discrimination, but I’m sure others think using that term that is falsely equivalent as well.

BTW, I plan on getting an approved vaccine when it becomes available to me, and my spouse and kids will get it when available to them....just like we do with every vaccine.

You mean like a red letter or perhaps a gold star?

If you get a vaccine then you don't need to worry whether or not I got the vaccine. You're the one protected already.
