It will be interesting because I can see the companies really fighting this one. Otherwise if you fly the 777 and you don’t want the vaccine and can’t enter other countries doubt they are just gonna pay you.

Maybe they should also "come into play" to ensure that pilots don't have to fly above 10,000', due to the risk imposed by cosmic radiation?
I sure hope they don't, the industry has enough problems as it is. No need to add self-imposed pain by catering to the special whims of every single contrarian on the seniority list. It's called work for a reason... sometimes you don't want to be there, that's why they have to pay you. In our case the "work" aspect includes some small risks that most cube dwellers aren't exposed to. Nobody is going to force you to get vaccinated (as long as you stay out of the mil).

I don’t think there is any question that my airline (Delta) will require the vaccine. The question is how quickly will they require it? I’m not an anti-vaxxer. I get a flu shot every year and as far as I know I’ve had all the vaccinations that I need. I don’t object to a COVID vaccine, actually I want to get it......eventually. But I do not want to be one of the first. Would rather wait a few months to be sure it doesn’t cause problems.

If it's required to enter countries that they fly to, then yeah obviously it's part of the job.
Otherwise employees should not be forced to get a vaccine and the union should protect those employees who don't want to be forcefully vaccinated against their will.

You don’t have to take the vaccination, you have to get paid, either. Just like YF, if it’s a job requirement, it’s required.

Employers will take a wait-and-see approach. If they think it's needed to inspire customer-confidence or avoid liability, it will come down pretty quickly.
I hope my airline makes it mandatory for all customer-contact employees... that would make the customers more willing to come back, even (especially?) the anti-vaxxers. Just because some members of public may want to avoid or delay getting a vaccine doesn't mean THEY actually want to be around people who haven't been vaccinated...

For herd immunity you need a certain percentage of the people to get the vaccine. For Covid, that's about 14% of the people who are not immune(~50% have previous immunity), so at least 28% of the population needs to get an effective vaccine. If the vaccine is aimed at being 50% effective, than at least 56% of the population should get the vaccine.

So, if we are trying to solve the Revenue problem, i.e. butts in the seats, we want the general public to feel confident that their flying experience has the highest likelihood of being in a protected environment.
And, if I work with you, I would like to know you are doing all you can to lessen the chance I might bring your version of the infection home to my family.
