Quote: when it comes to training, be a sponge but realize that every instructor will care about something else the previous instructors don’t even mention. Be prepared to cooperate to graduate and be ready to master whatever things each and every instructor will care about.
This is so frustratingly true. Every instructor will get upset about something you don’t know even though you were never told you had to know it. That carries through to recurrent training every year, also.

Quote: I stand corrected. I could have sworn the rooms were different with keyed access to the specific floors.

I mean you’re right, the rooms over by the main desk are the crappy ones, but the West tower ones (past the steak house) have the keyed elevator access and are a HUGE step up. About 50/50 getting the tower rooms on overnights. At least with the keyed elevator access you’d know if your room key didn’t work, which was more like 80/20. 🤣

Can anyone at AW comment on average credit hours per month when things were normal? I know 75 is MMG, but just wondering what the average lineholder or reservist might credit on an average month, without picking up or dropping anything. Also what's an approximate max credit hours if you did pick up and try to work a lot. Thanks

pre-covid, 75-100 hours of credit with nothing extra most in the 85 range, right now it’s 75-90ish. All based on seniority with most at 75-80 depending on base.

best I ever did was 145 credits as an FO. That was living in base with a LOT of open time flying. Right now expect 75...maybe 80 over the summer.

Quote: no. Just study for the ATP written if you still have to do that. If not, get your affairs at home in order so you can focus on training. Learn things the way the company wants you to learn them. I appreciate the willingness to get ahead, but unlearning something you memorized because of a lack of context is even harder. It’s doable, just trust the process. Do the homework you get sent home with each day with the class, and then flash cards for memory items and limitations.

Read this, trust it, and read it again.

Quote: also want to know whether this would be worth it. I think I was told 2 weeks in Appleton and then sent home before doing systems somewhere else, then procedure training somewhere else, and sims in Atlanta potentially? If we will be moving around that much, might not be worth it

If moving around is your make or break you should probably not work as an airline pilot.

The travel to and from training is great practice for what you’re about to do all day long every day.

Quote: I'm sure red lion was nice when it was built...50 years ago. Too bad it never got renovated or at least kept the mold to a breathable level. I do miss the hot tub that was permanently closed. So glad we're out of there.

The paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, Wisconsin was one of if not the nicest hotel in the entire state. It has the only Vince Lombardi steakhouse and it was home to all of the visiting teams that played the Packers for a number of years. The original owners just figured out within the last decade that it was easier to sell it and take the cash than to try to compete with start-up hotel chains.

Quote: I live 3 hours away and drove to training. I brought my own food and cooked 3/4 of my meals. The cost savings right there justified the drive, plus I was able to take my class mates anywhere they needed to go on OUR schedule not the hotels

Being from Madison. Wisconsin I did the same thing and it’s very smart to be able to do that.

Quote: Anyone in the 4/23 class? Wondering if they have provided you any study materials or further details (class size, etc). I'm in the 5/23 class and was told I wouldn't receive anything till day one. I want to get a jump start on as much as I can.

Relax and have fun. You will be taught at a pace that you can pick up on and as long as you have a good attitude you will make it through this place.
