Jesus people, this isn’t a simple math problem. Just go with where you can get hired and gave the best QOL. You are all asking… and answering the wrong questions.

Regardless, you never know what was right until you die anyway.

just find a job that pays you to fly airplanes and enjoy it.

oh and to the moron that thinks a less than one year upgrade is a good thing… WTF? How many pilots are at Delta? About 15k, let say half are FOs. That means 7,00 FO wanted nothing to do with that upgrade. That is not a good thing.

10 year upgrade is to much.
2 year upgrade is to little
5-7 is just right.

Quote: Delta 767 Captain went to 4.5 MONTHS seniority. So you can get WB captain at Delta in under a year
There's a difference between WB CA, and widebody CA with QOL.

Also most DL 76's pay hardly more than NB.

Quote: Thanks for the replies. Any suggestions regarding the short/mid-term movement? WB captain isn't a major goal; though it would be great to check the box, someday.
Pure numbers say AA, UA, DL in that order. If you really want to spend a lot of time on WB's, then UA, DL, AA

But there's more to it than just numbers... consider domiciles, culture, etc. I sure wouldn't commute if If could live in base for any of those three.

This can't be stressed enough. The better seniority and commuting is still worse off than living in base. I think too much thought is put into WB as well.

My order of importance
1. Can I live in base?
2. Everything else.

No one can predict what’s going to happen in 10+ years. These retirement numbers assume no growth or shrinkage of fleets, which we know isn’t realistic.

You are not taking into consideration of those, well qualified, who have previous PIC experience in 121/125 operations. Also those who took the expat routes, as DECs, for financial reasons and wanting to return to the US to finish their careers.

As an example, you're of the opinion a year 4 captain on the 75/76 at ATI needs to wait 5-7 once at Delta to upgrade on those airframes?

I think what the dude is saying is careful what you wish for. Sure if you need money and don’t mind working red eyes every weekend and holiday then have at it. Otherwise it’s best to go to an airline where you can live in base. End story. Full stop

None of this has anything to do with my follow-up question.

Ah I see. My bad. What exactly are you asking then? Your question can be taken 2 ways. Ty

At face value if you and the other guy are insinuating that the gentleman is claiming you are not fit to upgrade, then you took it entirely wrong. He is talking about QOL. There is a reason that FOs pass on junior upgrades.
