Quote: If you’re a FO in MT, will you be away from home four days at a time like they say?
7 of the lines you’re gone 4 days, 3 nights. So you start at 10:00 am day 1, and you’re done around 4pm on day 4. The other 7 lines you only have 2 overnights which are on days 2, 3. So you’ll have to have a place to stay in BIL on day 1 if you can’t pick up an extra overnight that day. There’s only 14 lines total in BIL for FO’s.

I read a ways back that the schedule for Northeast FO was 4/4. To be clear, that's 4 days on, then 4 days off? I live in NE PA so Cape Air could be a good fit with that type of schedule since I could take a short flight or even drive the commute if need be.

That’s a good chunk of the schedules, yes

So are the typical schedules 4 days on 3 days off or 4 on 4 off? I’ve seen both discussed. Does it depend on your base? I would need to commute and because of the base being an outstation, the 4/4 would be better than the 4/3 since I would spend at least half day commuting home and then another half day back to the outstation. Any commuters on here who can share their experience?

Also, since the rotations are 6 months, what do pilots do for housing at their bases? Sharing an apartment? Renting rooms?

Any current pilots with Cape Air please chime in. Thanks!

Captain schedules vary by base, some are 4/4 some are 3/4 4/3, some are 4/3, etc. The FOs are almost all just 4/4 for simplicity...

Many FOs upgrade before 6 mos, but otherwise yes people have different housing and roommate arrangements in different places that are sometimes handed down...

I know this information changes regularly, so please bear with me.

Theoretically, could an FO commute in from GDV on Day 1, fly the 4 day rotation and commute back to GDV on Day 4? I live in BIS, so GDV is only a 3 hour drive vs 6 to BIL. And if the flights GDV-BIL are full/delayed etc, just keep driving.

When are bases awarded? Is it likely to get BIL as FO? How about after upgrade during the training contract?

What's the policy on facial hair?
& using an iPad or any EFB?

Facial hair is fine, if you keep it trimmed/neat.

No iPad/EFB or any other PEDs allowed in flight (FAA).

You could try commuting from GDV but since the number of available seats and flights are low, and no Jumpseat, your chances are probably 50/50 at best.

Bases are awarded during training then every 6 months (June/December for FOs). BIL has 14 lines and a fair amount of turnover. There are openings there regularly, so if you don’t get it initially you have a good chance of getting it 6 months in.
