Quote: Sorry if I struck a nerve there thats not at all how I feel. It was meant to be a feeler on what lower-time people were getting hired into. The 737 is miles better than the regional jets, but like you said I'm still new to this and having more monthly flight time was my primary concern. I'm just trying to get that experience up. Didn't intend to come off like that.
You will get tons more actual flying on the 737 than on the 747.

You know where you go to get turbine time and knowledge and experience to move on to bigger and better things? Regionals. And you just started. We are in unprecedented times with the hiring that’s going on. But you should know…..most of the guys going to the big US ACMI carriers are pretty experienced. Lots of expats or otherwise highly qualified heavy drivers. Certainly plenty of regional folks as well…….but 200 hrs? Sheeeeeesh…….. It took me a 24 year Air Force career and a few years 121 experience to get hired at my ACMI shop. Yeah that post is gonna touch a nerve.

What’s the chance of getting LAX or ONT for a new hire?

Same deal with 17 days on/13 days off?

Thanks

On the 747, zero chance of LAX as a NH…probably 6–12 months. On the 777 LAX/767 ONT, about a 50/50 chance. If you don’t get that as a NH you should be able to get it before finishing training.

All fleets have the same schedule. You owe the company up to 17 days a month. Some lines are 17 straight, some are split into multiple shorter trips over a 30 or 60 day period. It all depends on what you bid and what you can hold.

Don't beat yourself up...too much. The times, they are a changin' and you'll always run into folks that are salty about missing the 60s when they hired 707 FEs off the street at TWA and Pan Am. But with that being said, a lot of folks here put in years on the ramp before they got their shot at a 135 outfit. Also, the 73 is a handful to fly and would be a great step up from a 145 or 200 from a learning airmanship standpoint. It humbled me more than a little bit, more than a few times. And the block time has gone from 10-15 hrs a month to 25-50, so there will be some actual consolidation of knowledge. Sure, the 2nd year payrate sucks but the pay for all the widebody fleets doesn't really get good until year 3. And 3 months of seniority is 100-150 numbers right now...who knows if that's the difference between upgrading soon or forever from now.

Anyway, if you wanna do ACMI, I'd take the 73 if you get the offer.

25-50 hours is more actual stick time than 747 FOs get in 6 months.

I bet 747 guys make better coffee though. Plenty of practice to master that skill.

I'm a widebody captain here. I'll fly with you. There's nothing cosmic about what we do, where we go or the planes we fly. Just be prepared to read airway manuals, ops manuals, etc.

I didn't read your previous comment as an indication of entitlement, but just an artifact of communication from somebody who wants to go as far and as fast as they can. Be prepared to learn and be prepare to self-teach material thar we assume you already know.

You don't need to tread on eggshells around us.
