I've been saying for a couple of years now that there should be a sign above the door to the schoolhouse that reads: "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here..."

I think we can all remember being like PropWash when we were hired at our first 121 gigs. I know I was. Given enough time, that always fades. Welcome to the machine...

Absolutely. From those of us that have been following this thread since the beginning, it is quite interesting to see the downslide of attitudes from the 'wanting to get hired at their first airline' excitement and wonderment to the present attitudes displayed similar to the previous few posts.

If anything it ought to show the future hires into the industry that the shine/allure wears off quickly.
I don't know what FI is but the hostility never ceases to amaze. Newcomers tread lightly or be belittled for no apparent reason. Maybe it is just the profession in general. As for the allure, I don't disagree with all that people have said. There is much that is unfair. Many times I get frustrated. We have a lot to work on as a company. The person who is our management representative never flew the line with silver people. Our schedulers are notorious for not working within the rules of the contract. That being said, there are 2 positives.

First off, we were hired when there were no other jobs. Nobody was hiring anyone and people were even hired with less than 300 hours and think they owe the company nothing?? Think again. Get your CFI(and pass it the first time!) and work as an instructor for $15k a year to build time or build turbine multi at silver? We should all be somewhat grateful we had the opportunity to build time when there was nothing else out there. I loved instructing but this has been a great experience and resume builder. The difference now is things have changed. Every regional is hiring and all of them pay better by a large margin.

Also, I may be the only one here to admit this but I do enjoy the job. There is nothing I would rather do. I work with good people and have mostly descent trips out of my base. I just feel that everyone goes to a turboprop operator as a stepping stone to get to upgrade and build PIC. Now with the results of a staffing bid right around the corner there are likely to be 30+ people junior to me as captains? This does not bode well for employee retention.

No airline is perfect. We all want to fly a wide body for 300k a year and 20 days off a month. The road to getting the dream jobs is tough. Thankfully I actually really like my job and plan to make the best of it but unfairly treating pilots will make people quit faster than they can be replaced and that may make upgrade impossible. Time will tell but there is a lot for us all to consider in regards to our careers right now.

To this day I'll say Silver was an awesome airline to work for. The trips were great and minus a few bad apples, the pilots and flight attendants were awesome! I was gives a great opportunity to be here and enjoyed every minute.

That being said, in the past several months, there has been a lot of changes for the worst, and I do not enjoy being treated like garbage. A huge thing I cannot stand is people who screw others over to better themselves. There's a few of those at Silver and sadly they hold a few positions of worth.

Oh well. Hope everyone there finds what makes them happy, I miss flying with you guys. Except Ctab. He's a dick!

APC is miles better than FI...even when we have our little girl fights.

Why is this? The 1000 hour 121 rule?

Also, I agree with just about everything you've said here. I don't know where some peoples sense of entitlement comes from that they belittle or just try to suck any enthusiasm somebody has right out of them. The ones that leave will be posting how great their new airline is for about oh..... Two months. Then it will be the same old...

That being said. I wish you all luck. I really hope that the grass is greener where your going...

If only they treated us with the respect that we deserve this airline would be a pretty good place to hang out for a while. But it's all jacked up.

Staffing bid. Ask any of the old timers. When a staffing bid used to happen it was a total reset. None of this vacancy only stuff. I want CA and won't get it because they don't want to pay to train an upgrade if someone is already qualified to do that job. This is not the way it was done in the past as is said by all the original G streamers. We will see what the results hold but I don't expect it to be fair.

I do not blame direct entry captains it is just a little frustrating.

I feel ya. Call it blind faith but I gotta believe that management will come to feel our worth as qualified candidates dry up. (all ready did really) I mean it wouldn't take much to quiet the revolt. A little more mulla, a scheduling department that realizes they are talking to people not dogs, and an upgrade or two IN SENIORITY ORDER and it would be rainbows and unicorns around this place!

It's not the DEC's fault at all. They interviewed and got the job fair and square. I've flown with a few of them and they're all great to fly with and have earned my full respect. However the company is going about this all wrong. All I have to say is;
