No, I was on submarines in my former life. =)

They really aren't shiny.. They are comfortably used! If you are qualified, especially ex-mil! Why would you waste your time at any company with a 4+ year upgrade? Who wants to make 25$/hour (top out at 46) if there is no need to? Just my 2 cents.. I got nothin against AWAC good company, just givin my opinion.

Well, for me, I was considering AWAC because they have a base where I live. I was asking about the upgrade time and if it was going to come down anytime soon. I'm going to drop apps to a few regionals and see who bites. =)

Another thing to consider when choosing a regional - with a military background, there is a good chance you could get picked up by a major before you upgrade anyway. AWAC has a VERY good contract for a regional. If you have the chance to live in base, your QOL will be very good. Add AWAC's decent contract, for me, it's a no brainer. I personally wouldn't chase the upgrade. I'd take the QOL and a really good company to work for over the chance a faster upgrade and commuting. My humble opinion.

AWAC in full hiring mode - their turn around from app to interview to class is pretty quick, under a month in some cases. New hire time on reserve, in some cases, has been days or weeks, not months. New hires are getting their domicile of choice. I have recently started here - just under 50% of my class was former/current military. You could be flying out of the domicile near you, holding a line, by early next year. Food for thought.

Someone with military fixed wing experience need only come to get 121 time. You probably don't need to upgrade to be competitive at a major, but they will likely want to see a year or two in the 121 world.

If you live in the ORF region you could do a lot worse than come to ZW. Commuting in and out of ORF is horrible so you probably just want to be at ZW and drive to work.

Unless you're offered a job at a major first, and ZW calls you and offers you a job, I'd go with ZW over other regionals at this point.

The contract is decent and the commute in and out of ORF being what it is makes this an easy decision.

saab2000, would you mind expanding on your comments about the ORF commute? We are seriously considering moving to the ORF area after I leave the Navy, and while I plan to apply to Air Wisconsin, I'll hopefully be working for a larger carrier sooner than later. Any experience commuting to ATL, CLT, or NYC?

The bible verse "for nothing is impossible with god" doesn't apply to commuting in/out of orf
