Quote: How many has Delta hired in the last 5 years........Its been a few hundred. Its not much but its not completely stagnant.
It's true there has been hiring. However, due to synergies, multiple reductions in capacity, and furloughs/military leave pilots returning there has been little movement for many on the bottom. I have moved up over 850 numbers since the awarded ISL, but have moved up the seniority list roughly 2%.

On what.....how many pilots Eagle will hire this year ?

The plus side is the retirements have not been that big, and the economy was in the toilet. Retirements are much larger going forward, and the economy for now is at least starting to hobble along.

That's true. The potential for massive movement still exists.

Its how history goes, this one was nasty because of things related to our bloated govt and their dirty hand.

It has been the same story from my Dad, or when he was alive my Grandpa. This industry goes in cycles, this one is going to be a big one because of how long this last lul lasted. It just will take a decade to pan out.

People still believe that?

Ricky High-Five does. ;-)
guess at some point we can look back and see...........
Quote: Really? Think about that for a minute. For those out there like yourself (C-17 left seat) or myself, this means nothing. For those who are just beginning in this industry, those with a fresh ATP and no appreciable turbine time, this (meaning the bottom feeders, as you guys so eloquently put it), this is how they build the time and experience to someday become competitive applicants for a major major airline job. Would they all like to skip this step and move straight from flight instructing, banner towing, charter work, etc. to the Major airlines? Without a doubt. Is that possible. Almost without exception, no. Therefore, they can get excited about the entry level airline job market opening up. Yes, they will be very poorly paid initially, but then again, AA pays only $40 an hour to start there too, and since I'm a flowthrough about to head over there, I'm taking that ridiculous cut in pay to better myself in the long term. In a Utopian world, ALL FO's would make substantially better money than they presently do now. In the real world, I don't see this happening unless and until there is a REAL pilot shortage.
Not true I haven't worked with a single 121 regional, all 135 stuff and have interviewed with Hawaiian. Friend of mine just got hired with Alaska all he did was 135 stuff. Two former co workers are in class at allegiant (I think that's how it's spelled) they got all there time at AMF. ACP at AMF got interviewed at Hawaiian has worked at AMF his whole career. I'm sure there are more out there.

All I'm saying is there are many paths to your destination.
Rare. Not impossible, but very rare. I've been in this business as an airline pilot for over 21 years and have known only a handful of 135 guys who've gotten hired at a mainline. Definitely not an easy path to take. Most 135 guys I've known of who've moved on to a mainline have had connections.
